So my son just purchased a 2011 G37x and we made the customary trip to the salvage yard to get the odds and ends that the previous owner neglected and I noticed one thing that has me really scratching my head:

There are A LOT of G37s in the yard!
I mean there are a few Rav4s and they outsold the G37 by millions. There were 10 G37s! A few were accidents so I see that, but how could so many of such a nice car be there? Many were awd too. I noticed that virtually every one had the transmission pan pulled but still had the transmission so it's not fried tranniess sending these to their doom so what is it?

TLDR Why are there so many G37s in the salvage yards?

 

Welcome and congrats on your son's new G! But the answer to your question is somewhat related to his purchase. The G37 is a high-performance car with a low used car price. That's attracted a lot of younger drivers with limited experience to crash or damage a lot of them. Like other VQ-powered Nissans/Infinitis, the laws of physics still apply and accidents pile up. The seven-speed auto has been pretty reliable, so I have no idea why the tranny pans are being pulled...

 

Depreciation hit's these cars really bad. From a Salvage yard perspective you can't always look at the amount of a model as unreliable cars. Many times the JY use customer tracking into perspective.
The used Infiniti market is very hot now and the crashed Infiniti as well.

The only thing that kills them is gallery gaskets, overheating, transmissions and interiors
