Best Bang for Buck parts
Best Bang for Buck parts
Im making this writeup for those of you who don't want to rice out your G (I have a journey X sedan) but don't want to break the bank, here's what I spent on parts and how I sourced them (as a disclaimer I track/autocross my car)
Parts:
50$ Rear sway bar off of an IPL (can also be pulled from a nismo 370z or g37s rwd), this significantly increases the handling on the X models (the Xs models have a 17mm sway bar while the IPL/nismo sway bar is 26mm)
50$ Sway bar link upgrades from rock auto (front or rear) (go moog or invotek) from factory sway bar links are known to go and this really makes a difference in handling especially for those who are lowered
200$ fast intentions exhaust, search hard but you will find cat backs, I pulled my from a wreck for cheap but I had to drive down to VA from NY (DO NOT MUFFLER DELETE IT ADDS NO POWER AND YOU SOUND LIKE ****)
350$ berk high flow, got on FB marketplace and sold my stock ones for 600$, MAKE SURE TO ADD O2 EXTENDERS
180$ Long tube intakes, I bought short ram intakes for like 30$ used, extended them mimicking long tube intakes with silicone hoses and 3" piping from amazon (the intakes go from 2.5" to 3) but my tuner says they flow super well and work perfectly
90$ truhart rear camber arms, bought them new on FB marketplace
60$ power steering cooler, just used an AutoZone off the shelf cooler and some hose
60$ trans cooler, same as ps cooler (makes a big difference on track)
350$ Front akebono kit, Rock auto sells for 60$ a side after core the akebono caliper from powerstop, it's about 200$ for the Detroit axle drilled and slotted kit (rotors and pads), add in banjo bolts and some brake fluid but it all bolts right up (you have to cut the brake shield)
90$ track pads, I use powerstop track day, they haven't let me down
30$ dot 5 brake fluid, flush your brakes it makes a difference and it's important
50$ used braided steel brake lines off of a 370z
120$ drilled and slotted rear brake kit (stock caliper) from Detroit axle (good pads for a daily and the rotors haven't warped on me)
1100$ BC coilovers (don't buy used, don't buy cheap you're ruining your car, just buy them new trust me)
90$ Megan racing strut bar, it makes a difference and looks good
800$ 19x8.5 advanti hybriss flow formed wheels, got these on FB marketplace, they're light weight and look good
400$ 255/40/19 Pirelli pzero tires (220 tread wear grip well on track)
80$ paddle shifters pulled off of a wreck, they're plug and play make sure to get the shroud
100$ trans fluid, transfer case fluid and front/rear diff fluid FLUSH YOUR ****IN TRANS IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Also change your plugs after 80k just trust me
10$ epoxy rear diff bushing, I'm not joking there's a video online of how to fill your diff bushing with epoxy cause they blow out, makes a huge difference
40$ headlight buffing, wet sand using 3000 grit, then 5000grit sandpaper, next is compound and final is plastiX polish (makes a huge difference our headlights fade like crazy) I never had luck with the restore kits but this method works (ignore picture that was before)
My car handles great and feels great on the road, all of these were installed by me, your milage will probably vary for all of these, but these are the prices I paid and how I sourced the parts

Welcome to the Forum Ace, something tells me you typed all of this on the phone or I'm hoping. You provided some decent info and I applaud you for having put this much effort into this. Please understand that this list can be unrealistic due to the amount of hustle you had to do. You're still missing the rear calipers $300 average , headlights will yellow again unless professionally cleared, finding paddle shifters at a yard can be almost impossible but usually average at $200, and the rest of the used components especially suspension will deteriorate faster over time which another used set can be found however you are already at $4300 and overall will spend more money in the end replacing some of these components.
Documenting prices like this might just be a nice mention from your end and though you might see a few of those floating around which I do too the reality is that posts like this encourage others to save their used parts and raise the price since there is an interest in them and folks who want to fully modify expensive cars on a budget love them. You now have this wave of personalities wanting bang for buck because inflation sucks and fuel is starting to hurt, this adjustment will start to have folks going cheaper and cheaper and start developing weird/unforeseen problems that it's expected for the internet masses to fix because now there is no more money to fix it the right way because we've already spent $4300. You could have spend $5500 and obtain far more life out of some of the components in these lists if you buy them new. I used to be a huge defender of used parts however the ****ty part about getting old is remembering your 21yr self going the cheap route and swearing up and down it's not worth new or OEM. Here I am telling you I was wrong, many will tell you.
My apologies for this type of response however this type of lists have always bothered me because as unrealistic they can be, I've had sellers pull forum pages in my face before saying "well based off the forum" and we don't need this to falsely influence folks.
