Road trip considerations
Road trip considerations
Hey all- So upcoming trip from central Fl, to north SC then across to Northen GA and back to central FL... all in 5 days.. roughly 1.2k miles and my concern is my G has 139k, not modded, its been a DD and well maintained, regular oil changes-never had electrical issues, no codes...
So my question is what do you all think? I realize anything can happen etc and have driven the car around FL, but usually Miami(200miles) or Orlando (80) miles but not a lot more in a stretch . Would the higher elevations have an impact as the only hills its seen in FL are parking garages lol... i can get a rental etc but there is something about wanting to drive the G etc but not against sound advice... also, i see much higher miles G but Im just not sure on that many miles in such a short time... so anybody done something similar and thoughts... thanks

If everything is as you say it is, I see no concern. If anything that road trip might be good for her to stretch her legs. Just perform a solid pre-trip inspection (check hoses, belt, tires, etc.), make sure all of the fluids are topped off and enjoy the trip.
Don't concern yourself with the higher elevations... the car is not climbing Mt. Everest, lol. The car will be fine.
Just my 10¢.

Here's my roadtrip prep - https://stingerforum.org/threads/road-trip-prep.25369/ .
If the car is well maintained (not just oil changes) - other fluids, suspension, brakes, tires, etc, you should be fine.
Edit, in terms of higher elevations, keep the car in a lower gear so as not to lug the engine. 2500-3K rpm or higher should be good.

Interesting prep list, though I am curious why you specifically mention a 21mm socket (lugs, I'm assuming?). I just carry the Nissan tool kit that came with the car...

^^None of my sockets fit right (even sae) so had to buy a proper 21mm. Why mention, so folks don't have to hunt what size is needed. I carry a larger 18" (?) 1/2" ratchet in case a wheel has to come off.
I did the same when roadtripping with the G. Ironically one time discovered a nail in of the tires upon return.
To the OP, do you have roadside assistance service (AAA)?

How high in elevation are you going? I live 3500 above sea level and semi regularly drive 4500 feet above sea level. All you notice is the power loss there's nothing you need to do differently. If it's well maintained and in good shape you should have no issues. If you're concerned you can pay a shop to give it a quick inspection before going for probably an hours worth of labour costs.

yes, i have noticed the fitment issues as well and yes, do have AAA . not really going any place too far off main roads etc, so if any issues , i am hoping there wont be any issues, other than time delays, but the tools will give me a peace of mind, at least if anything manageable comes up...

there is a place in northern SC that states it's at 3.5k elevation, so that is the highest point i plan to drive up to, otherwise 1-2k levels...and yes, have the inspection planned for next week just in case...

The altitude is a 100% non concern. All you'll notice is about 10% less power at that elevation from the lower air density.
For a tiny compressor, Harbor Freight sells a small high-volume comp. We bought one to do our bikes with but I use it for tire top-up too.

Amazon has similar things for a range of prices too.
Edited to add: a collapsible 4-way lug wrench is also a good investment of size vs utility. I need to get one... my fullsize 4-way slides around if the trunk is empty lol.
Re: Elevation - I spent a week in Sapphire Valley NC with the extended fam and we dipped into SC and GA out looking for waterfalls. Hit some pretty high peaks. Barely noticeable performance loss, especially considering I had 4 adults and a kid in the car.

^^Visited the smokey mountain area several times some years past. I remember the car lacking power going up the hills. Of course it depends what gear/rpm. I was likely in the midrange range (3-5K). If you're in the upper end the experience is likely different. Are you tuned? Mine was stock.
