My G37 won’t start

I just charged and installed my relatively new batter (less than 2yrs old). The battery had ~12.6V after charging and ~12.4V after sitting disconnected for a couple of days. I connected the battery today and the car would not start. All other accessories(lights, radio, windows, air, etc) worked, but the car just clicked and the engine would not start. A mechanic installed a new alternator around 2yrs ago as well.

I recently fixed a sunroof leak that was causing water to leak on the passenger side. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s causing the electrical problems.

Thanks in advanced.

Does it start if you give it a jump? Also, make sure your terminals are properly secured with no oxidation anywhere. Maybe try wiggling the terminals and then try starting again.

The terminals are old but clean - no signs of oxidation, I cleaned them a while ago. I haven’t jiggled them either because they are on their pretty snug. I haven’t tried jumping it, at least not with my other car. I tried to jump it with my portable jumpstarter but that didn’t work. I believe it’s because the starter needs to be charged though.

Starters do not need to be charged. I suspect you have a defective alternator that is allowing your battery to be drained. You need to have the car checked by a qualified tech.

I misspoke, I was referring to a “jumpstarter,” not the actual starter in the car.

Sounds like what my car was doing when the starter went out. I replaced the starter and I’ll tell you I never heard my car start as good as it does now before I put the new starter in it. I made a video that might help you out if you want to change it yourself. Hardest part was finding one for a decent price because new starters are not cheap. Ended up finding one for around $65 to $70 bucks shipped to my house and I changed it myself. Be mindful that I never change the starter prior to this one so it’s not like I have a whole Lotta experience with it. When I took it out the first time it took me a little while to kind of figure out the best way to do it. I had to wait a couple days for the new starter to be shipped so I took my old one that was in the car to a starter shop down the street to see if they could rebuild it. He didn’t have a new solenoid at his shop and I would’ve had to wait so I just had the guy clean it up, checked all electrical components. He charge me 10 bucks to do what he did, I figured it was worth a shot while I wait for the one that I got from ebay to come and I’ll put it back in the car to see if it would work. Well, the solenoid was the reason it wouldn’t work so I had to take it back out of the car and install the new one when it came in the mail. The second time I did it I took the old one out and put new one back in in under 45 minutes so it’s definitely a doable job if you have any kind of common sense of mechanics .

Check out the video, it is a two-part video so you need to go check out the second one that shows you how to remove the main power terminal prior to taking it out of the car. Please feel free to hit me up if you have any questions I’m always happy to help. Hey why are you there if you want you can hit the like button, lol.

you’ll probably need to copy and paste the link won’t come up on here.

+2 on the starter

My maxipad did that after getting whataburger.
But it was the oem starter that died after 250k

i got high and removed my foot from the clutch while waiting for my meal and the car stalled. It wouldn't start no more so I pushed it to a parking spot and kept trying to crank it sometimes it would want to turn but then it just gave up. After seeing smoke coming from engine bay I was like yeah ok thats the starter.

Bought a new one from o'reilly's and car starts right up
