2010 G37x Sedan
I've tried finding an answer to this now and haven't had a definitive one so I guess I'll ask (hope I'm not beating a dead horse):

Has anybody installed Q50 paddle shifters on a non-paddle shifter equipped G37?
The parts blueprints look very similar and I can find cheaper Q50 paddles than G37 paddles for some reason.
(Yes I know it's just the paddles and I need a whole new steering wheel cover)

Please let me know!

 

Any of the column mounted paddle shifters should fit just fine. The steering wheel mounted paddle shifters- found on the newer Q50's and Q60's- will not work without some rewiring. I just finished that project.

Just make sure your car is pre-wired or be prepared to source connectors and run some wiring. Not hard to do, but obviously a lot easier if the harnesses are present.

And, technically, you only need the lower cover/shroud.

 

interesting dreed on the Q50 padres. I've also found same era Maxima shifter paddles cheaper. They are all silver, not the black insert on the G37's They sure look like the same part, connectors ect. but I was wary as they are for a CVT transmission.
I searched here and only found some references that 'they should' fit.

The paddle shifters are only a simple, momentary "NO" (Normally Open) switch. When you hit the paddle the switch closes and a ground signal is sent to the AC Amplifier. That said, just about any same/similar generation Nissan paddle setup should work as long as the paddles are column mounted. There should be no difference between auto trans and the CVT.

Just verify the connectors/mounting points and you should be good to go. Also, it helps tremendously if your car is pre-wired for the paddles. If not, the project is still doable, but it gets a little more intensive.

Side topic: The main difference with the newer Nissans, they have transitioned to steering wheel mounted paddles, not column mounted. When I did my Q60 steering wheel swap I had to do some minor electrical surgery to get them and the heated wheel to work. Even then, the signals and wires are the same as the older generations and works perfectly.

 

thanks ILM that's great info. ooooo, heated steering wheel. I had that on my last Jag, thought it was a silly thing, until I got used to it in the winter. Kind of like when we made fun of heated seats way back.

 

Now that I have it, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Buddy of mine and I were joking how the new Land Rover Velar has heated and "massaging" seats... hmmm....

 

Yeah I already checked and I do have the wiring harness haha. I wanted to make sure I wasn't getting myself hyped up for nothing. Thanks for the feedback!

 

Good point about the wheel v. paddle mount! I'll make sure to factor that in.
