Rear Flap Loose

There's a rear mini flap in front of the rear wheel that came loose. I noticed that as I played with it a button fell out that held it in place. I tried putting it through the flap and into the hole to secure it but it kept falling out. Closely observing I noticed that the plastic button had cracked pieces inside. I assume that I need a replacement but I'm not sure how it's called or what part number it is. I don't want to visit a dealer and pay money to diagnose this and wonder if any of you are familiar with this piece that holds the flap in place. I took several picture so you can visually see what I'm talking about. The loose flap under the rear of the car as well as the button that fell out. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks for taking your time to view this post!

That's one of the common "clips" used on our cars - for instance you can see several of them in the fan shroud / radiator trim area right under the hood. (In fact you could borrow one from there to temporarily secure your loose piece). You pop up the center section with a flathead screwdriver and then pull the "plug" out. Leave that center section up when you put the plug back in, then press it down to lock it in place.

But they get brittle with heat and age and eventually give up just like yours did. I bought a handful from the dealer at some point because I had lost a few myself but I can't remember the part number. You could bring your broken one in to an Infiniti or Nissan parts dept. for a replacement, or they're probably available from any auto parts store, not sure.

You can probably find these at the hardware store, too, like Lowes or Home Depot. Or hit up Amazon and buy a bag of them. Like said in the previous comment, they get brittle with heat, cold and age. Those clips are used on all the plastic panels in the engine bay, and the trunk liner, and countless other places, so having a bag of replacement clips handy is entirely reasonable.

What do these flaps do? or what are they called? I forgot when I bought my X that I noticed there was some holes that looked like something was missing...and just looked, yep, mine are gone.

I assume they're just an aerodynamic item utilized to reduce drag from the impact of air hitting the tires.
