Angry Q50 Oil Cooler on a G37

TLDR; Q50 Oil cooler on a G37 is possible but not plausible.

Long story short 2015 Q50 VQ37 being placed into a 2009 G37 that locked up at 220k. And I might be an idiot. The '15 came with the stock oil cooler that bolts on at oil filter and has hard lines running up the block. I can only find mention of the oil cooler in the cooling systems that operate with a pressurized radiator reservoir tank. Because it's going into '09, it lacks the pressurized tank system. Here comes the million dollar stupid question, is it possible to run the oil coolers without the pressurized reservoir tank?

I'm assuming it's not possible which means I got way ahead of myself and have to tear this thing back down to replace the hard coolant lines and block off plate from the seized '09 block to the '15 block. FML


Q50 Oil Cooler



Q50 - The "top" line runs behind DS exhaust manifold to the block.


G37 - The "top" line is blocked off with plate.


Q50 - "Bottom" line runs out of water pipe on DS just above AC.


G37 - "Bottom" line is a brace support.

It's possible to make it work however with the engine averaging 200-218 deg F it acts more of a warmer/cooler.
You could remove the lines from it and install your hoses from your car and leave the sandwich open.
Or
You could turn it into an external cooler by adding hoses a water pump and a small radiator/cooler however unsure with the efficiency of the factory unit

Sounds like I am swapping hard lines and removing the cooler. I'm guessing the pressurization of the reservoir is they key component with this stock oil cooler. Was the addition of the oil cooler to the VQ37 because of stock forced induction options?

By monitoring your oil temps you can clearly see it for yourself that these engines need an oil cooler.

My '09 G does not have oil cooler, only trans cooler. I cannot use the stock oil cooler from the '15 due to the lack of the pressurized reservoir tank.
