In my opinion, $8,500 is top dollar for the car. A salvage title can place a huge hit on a vehicle's value. In this case, the damage doesn't look TOO bad. Definitely repairable. I worked as an insurance adjuster for a major insurance company for a few years so I have direct experience in the field. Body Shops/Collision centers and the whole auto body industry and the technology they use have come a long way. I have been absolutely shocked at the vehicles I have seen repaired, to the point that I wouldn't rule out buying a car that has been in a collision if it can be purchased at a discount and repair history is available. The work that is done to modern damaged cars really is incredible.

That being said, this makes me wonder why the vehicle was totaled in the first place as the damage doesn't look too significant. Expect a potential buyer to really pick apart the car and look for issues. The dent on the left rear door certainly won't help with the value, either.

Seems high especially since the back door is still bashed in pretty good. ...and I don't think that has the navigation or if it does its definitely not fully loaded as it doesn't have the technology package(there is no ICC module in the front bumper)...

I'll go ahead and say it. That's too much for a Salvage titled non sport in that year. ESPECIALLY with the back door damaged. You should be able to find a decent one for the same money with a clean title.

I paid 8500 in Nov for my 2010 4 door base with 103k miles. Clean title and in great shape. Had 19's after market wheels and BC Coil overs

Do a search of Gs in your area and see how much they are going for and condition. Like someone said above you may be a able to get a great G for 8500.00. Salvage/Rebuilt titles go for about half the price or a bit more then half.

The biggest problem in your scenario is this G is owned by a friend. Based on that, it's going to be difficult to negotiate based on the feedback here. Not sure where you live, but in my state, you'd have to get the car re-smog tested and registration, taxes and tags are STILL the responsibility of the new owner.

Odd that it was salvaged with that damage - something else had to be wrong. That's like a $2-$3k repair assuming a new OEM headlamp assembly, bumper and fender.

In Iowa, private party (assuming navigation and no tech) is $10,500. As it's salvaged, I wouldn't be in for more than $6,000.

Its not odd. Salvage laws vary from state to state. Here in MD its 70%, and when the insurance company determines if its a loss they count all the parts + labour cost. A new headlight is stupid expensive if you look at the MSRP (which is what they go by), add up fender, bumper, headlight, paint, etc on a car worth less than $10k and its totalled. I'm sure that dent on the back door didn't help either.

The repair estimate I had on a totaled car was absurdly high. Something like $20k on a car valued at $15k.
