What is considered "driving hard"?

Yeah, we like to enjoy our cars, we like to beat the shizz out of them, blah blah blah, but what is everybody's perspective on "driving hard"?

If you expect to see the traction control light when pulling out of a turn... you're probably driving hard.

If you like to turn TC off so that you can get the strongest possible launch out of the hole, just for the fun of it... you're probably driving hard.

If you average 10-15k miles on a set of rear tires...

If you're not unfamiliar with (and embarrassed about) getting slapped back by the rev limiter...

If kids and people into cars turn and stare, while adults scowl at you... well, that's probably just your exhaust, LOL.

I'd agree track days qualify as "driving hard". That kinda of sustained high speed operation isn't really possible on the street.

Is shifting at 7500 rpm driving hard? Seems like it's in the normal operating range of the engine

I can't comment on the 7500 rpm. I have to short-shift at the track or the damned 7AT makes uncommanded up-shifts and ignores down-shift commands. I rarely rev that high on the street.

Normal RPM limits During Shift

Hello everyone,

FNG here with a 2013 G37 Auto at 66K miles. I picked up the car about two weeks ago from a local dealer. I'm used to my Accord with 194hp on the 4 cylinder so the RPM increase is taking some time to get used to. Is it normal for the car to be floating around 3k rpm from 1-3 gear? I'm sure it is but don't want to overlook something if it needs to be addressed by a mechanic asap. I'm averaging about 15mpg, all city. My gas tank seems to be similar to the Honda as I put in about $25 every two weeks so gas consumption isn't really a concern. Just concerned that the car is in fact revving properly at 2500-3500 during 1-3 gear from a light. thanks. Looks forward to browsing this site for future at home repair help.
