What is considered "driving hard"?
#16
Hello everyone,
FNG here with a 2013 G37 Auto at 66K miles. I picked up the car about two weeks ago from a local dealer. I'm used to my Accord with 194hp on the 4 cylinder so the RPM increase is taking some time to get used to. Is it normal for the car to be floating around 3k rpm from 1-3 gear? I'm sure it is but don't want to overlook something if it needs to be addressed by a mechanic asap. I'm averaging about 15mpg, all city. My gas tank seems to be similar to the Honda as I put in about $25 every two weeks so gas consumption isn't really a concern. Just concerned that the car is in fact revving properly at 2500-3500 during 1-3 gear from a light. thanks. Looks forward to browsing this site for future at home repair help.

Per Blnewt,
When you snap your driveshaft that’s when you know you’re driving too hard....

"What is considered driving hard?"
That is a good question. When I hear someone saying they are driving the car hard it sounds to me like they are either sloppily over driving the car or beating on it. Don't get me wrong, you can still drive the car plenty fast once the engine and tires are warmed up.
I think that driving fast with precision and driving smooth are completely different than driving the car hard. To be truly fast on track you have to drive just beyond the limits at times so you know where they are, but you can still be smooth and precise with your inputs. Driving hard is the guy on track who is sliding everywhere, hitting the rev limiter, and breaking parts. Does that make sense?

What is this DS you guys speak of?
My driving habits all depend on how my day at work went. I get into work very early and normally still 1/2 way asleep and barely any traffic on the road. I've slid the rear out of my parking lot more times than I can remember so....
