What vehicle will be a worthy replacement for your sedan when it is time?
If I'm not mistaken, the 2.0 Theta in the G70 is the same motor that was in the BK2 Coupe. Guys were posting some impressive numbers from what I remember reading in their forums....A lot were north of 400 whp after mods and a tune. Big difference between the Genesis Coupe and the G70 is the weight. Gen. Coupe coming in at 3,300 while the G70 is at least 3,400.
What model are you goinbg to be driving?..the 2.O ? 6m/T 3.3 AWD?
until i drive the RWD 6MT model i also have concerns going to a 2.0T after the 3.7L VQ. most of the early G70 press coverage is on the 3.3T model which has very healthy stats. i am willing to give up some of the VQ's top-end pull if the low-end torque (~265lb-ft) of the 2.0T makes up for it. the lack of torque in the VQ has always irked me a bit - you really need 3k+ rpms for things to pick up.
This is exactly what I was thinking...I'm wondering if the 2.0T has to be wound up super high to get those numbers though...

I was pretty comfy in the back of a 228i. I am 5' 9", 188lbs.
IDK, I don't think I ever want a 4 cylinder car ever again. I'd rather have a 6 banger + auto than a 4 banger + manual, unless it was something like an Elise or Exocet Miata.

in the meantime, i have a perfectly functional, reliable, hassle-free and paid for G37S which can still get me in to plenty of trouble.
i do want to test out the M240 6MT. tried to drive one the other day actually. went to the local dealer who had one. spent 15 minutes on the BMW lot and in the showroom. not one sales person said hi or even acknowledged i was there. all the sales people were either screwing around on their phones or cackling away at the coffee machine. i hadn't noticed the car i wanted to test so i left, but was amazed at the lack of attention. some of my friends have had the exact same experience with the BMW dealers here.
3.3 AWD.
I have driven a M235i AT a couple of times, not sure how big of a difference it is compared to M240i. Dynamic wise that car is spot on, everything felt right. It was a ton of fun even if it was AT.
Too bad the dealership you went to was crap, cause when I asked for a test drive, they just handed me the keys and told me to come back in an hour. Got to go anywhere I wanted with no one else in the car.

The lack of row your owns is really quite depressing... it’s the reason I searched 6 months for a ‘13 sedan three years ago. Mine has less than 40k miles so it’s not a rush but the options will undoubtably continue to dwindle

Hard to beat a used G37x
I bought a 2013 G37x sedan in October of 2016, my car has 43,000 on it now. I paid $20k all in, with the CPO warranty until 2019. The car has been wonderful. We had a 10 inch snowfall this winter and even without my Blizzacks, the Michelin Premier A/S had ZERO problems navigating the snow / ruts / ice in my Chicago alley. (The alley is always the biggest problem for me in Chicago, the city does not plow them.)
Also it's been pretty fun driving around. I'm never going to take it to a track, and there are no canyon twisties here- the local terrain is flat as a board- so I will never get to use all the performance the car has. Still, it FEELS great, it's really nice having the power and handling. The size is just right for me, and it's nice and quiet inside, good seat, decent enough NAV and Bose stereo. Traction and stability control is not too intrusive for my kind of driving, and is a safety plus given I'm not Fangio.
You can buy nicer cars than a 2013 G37x, you can buy faster cars, you can buy cars that are even more reliable. But you can't buy one for $20,000. (or the $18,000 or so that mine is now worth.)
Audi, BMW, Lexus, Acura all make some very nice cars. The Germans are expensive and built to stay that way, and Lexus is also quite pricey- and their prior years' models are pretty boring. Acura has some interesting cars now, but I don't see anything like a G37x.
You know if I were leasing a car, so that it would always be new and under warranty I think I'd get an S5 or an S6. But I'm retired and I need to save my money so that I can afford the GOOD dog food in my later years.....

^ as with many turbo engines the peak torque in the G70 2.0T comes on strong down low, under 2k rpms according to specs. that is what interests me. if strong grunt is available for around-town use down low that would be a handy upgrade over the VQ which needs to be revved. i'll miss upper rpm blasts in the G37, but those are fewer and further between anyhow. that said, if the 2.5T in the G70 is imminent, the wait would be worth it for an extra 50hp.

Redlines are decreasing. Not many motors stretch to 7500 anymore. The 6mt invites me to rev this motor out.
Yea, my next car may be older than the G for that very reason. It's sad that things have flipped... back in the day you paid more for the turbo version, now you pay more for the versions without it (Mustang, 911 GT3, Ferraris etc)
At this point I would be leaning towards an ATS-V Sedan MT.... if anyone drives it up north. Only 3 MT’s for sale in Canada on Auto Trader but they’re all coupes. Probably 3 years out so I won’t get too excited about it yet. This thread was a good read and definitely an eye opener
tried out the M240 6MT yesterday. what a little pocket rocket. tons of fun, gobs of torque on tap at or below 2k rpms. cool 'sport display' screen that shows real time hp and torque. traction control is a frequent visitor.
the gearbox and clutch are butter, very sweet. much nicer action than the G. hill starts are a breeze with the perfect clutch and anti-roll back feature. within 2 blocks of the dealership i had to do a very steep hill start which is a bit tricky at times in the G, but after driving the M240 for 1 minute i had no issues.
the interior is tight, as are the seats, but not bad. room for a couple sets of clubs in the trunk. i was not impressed with some of the hard surfaces nor the seat leather. this car is clearly more about the drive than the luxury/comfort. still, for a fun weekend car it is certainly on my list as a contender.

Yea the only thing I don't like about the G (aside from FUCA clearance issues) is sometimes throttle response below ~3K can be soggy when the A/C is on. One of the reasons an N55 equipped Bimmer is on the short list.
What are people's experiences with C6 Grand Sports? 400HP/TQ should be enough, and it sounds like the handling issues can be fixed by ditching the leaf springs and going with conventional coilovers. I just don't know if I could live with 2 seats again, especially with a kid or two.

A C6, really? I've always been wildly conflicted about the Vette. The ride is amazing and horrible. The interiors are gorgeous and cheap. The design is breathtaking and tacky. There's just no middle to these cars. Every impression is an extreme one.
I'd love to own a Vette, and there's no way I would.
