What vehicle will be a worthy replacement for your sedan when it is time?
Thanks. The Direct Adaptive Steering is optional, but when I look at the 2021 online it looks like they are all at least electronic steering. Confusing since the last one I drove maybe a year ago did not have the Direct Adaptive Steering and my Infiniti rep claimed that it was a hydraulic steering unit. It felt much better than the one in my recent video and really just like my car. Now when I search for hydraulic steering in the Q50S there are lots of articles that claim that the Q50S was supposed to get a hydraulic rack, but only a few that claim it actually has it. At this point, who the hell knows?
and blind spot intervention. Skip this package, and you would seemingly get hydraulic steering. I wonder how many cars don't have this package though.....So out of curiosity, I went to the Infiniti website and built a Q50 Red Sport 400. The $1,950 ProActive Package includes Direct Adaptive Steering, Radiant front emblem

Electric power steering is standard:

Got a little excited for a second.

They are. DAS is the optional package. Based on what I've been reading from owners who have driven both (DAS v. non-DAS), DAS is the superior set-up compared to the non-DAS cars. The heavier steering is actually noticeable in sport+ compared to the standard drive mode; where-as for the non-DAS cars, owners have said there's virtually no change between the settings/drive modes.
Also, 2018+ models received an updated DAS compared to the earlier models. These owners mention it's a great improvement over DAS '1.0' in the pre 2018 models.

So...........does any Q50 get hydraulic steering, or just two different types of electric steering?
I tracked that down pretty hard when I was shopping a year and a half ago, and I'm 95% sure a journalist misunderstood a press release. They made DAS optional but all are electric steering. Some like one or the other better, (increasingly DAS after some incremental improvements) but neither feels as nice as the G. I can't totally blame them since this is the way of the future and they are obviously benchmarking competitors, but it's still a bummer and not as good an execution as their German rivals.

No, I was told that the Q50S Red Sport I drove about a year ago did not have the DAS option and I do not remember the steering being as vague initially as the one in the car I recently drove in the video. When I drove the car a year ago I was told that it had hydraulic steering, but I cannot find any proof of that now. Maybe the earlier models 2016-2017 had hydraulic steering standard. When I look under "specs" on the Infiniti website for the 2021 Q50 it looks like they all have electric steering and DAS is an option.
I'll post any news about the manual CT4/5 because it's awesome GM is sticking to it!
