Humming Noise at Highway speeds

Driving at highway speeds I notice a rhythmic humming emanating from the car but I can't tell where it is coming from. It seems to have a consistent cycle of humming for a couple seconds then stops for a couple seconds and becomes unnoticeable say under 50-55 mph. Any ideas what may be causing this?

Wheel bearings are known to cause humming. However they are usually noticeable at all speeds and get louder as speed increases

Thanks for your replies, I was thinking it could be a wheel bearing. I had one replaced on my 2003 G35 MT but the noise was much louder. Maybe the bearings not that bad yet and thats why I don't notice it at lower speeds. This morning I didn't notice it at all on the highway. Do you know if the warranty covers it, got 2 days left.

Bearing noise wouldn't come and go like that.. Sounds weird. The best way to identify a bearing is to drive at constant speed (not to fast) and swerve side to side. As the weight shifts to the side with the bad bearing, the noise will get louder.

My old camaro used to hum. It would start at ~60mph and be really bad by 75mph. I replaced the steel drive shaft with an aluminum unit. It didn't remove the hum entirely but shifted it over by ~15-20. It would not start at 75ish and be really bad around 90.

I've not experienced this at all with my G and it's been through the full gamut of speeds under triple digits (after all, it's not about straight line speed but cornering speed/ability).

Had to do a front wheel bearing at 34k mi. If you find it's worse or better going around a curve, that's what it is

Thanks all for your input. I took it to the stealership and they replaced the faulty bearing - today was the last day of my warranty too!

Did they replace it under warranty?

Yes they replaced it under warranty. They also will be replacing the ashtray because the lid will not stay shut and they are replacing the wood trim around the shifter because there is a hairline crack in it!

Buzzing sound at high speeds

The sounds seems to kick in at 5 or 6th gear. Sounds like a buzzing electricical noise as if the alternator is over charging or a bad ground. I turned off my radio, still the noise kicks in when I slightly or press on the gas pedal. When I let go it goes away. Any ideas or hints ? Thanks

I don't hear a hum, but more so a high pitched sound around 70-75 mph. It too goes away when I lift off the throttle. Normally the stereo is turned on so I don't hear it. In another decade or so i'll be too old to hear high pitch sounds anyways, so problem will fix itself
