is nobody else seeing "estimated repair damage $12k. retail value $15k"
That's a salvaged title.
That being said though, it's a salvage title I'd be fine with owning for the most part. hail is probably the safest "total loss" possible.
But isn't every car being sold for parts like that at auction a salvage title? The whole reason they are there is because whoever owned it before had it totaled by their insurance.

Mostly yes, but there are different prices for repair if dealer does it or if you do it yourself. So quite often it can be a good deal to get a wrecked car and fix it yourself. There is always risk involved though.
That's what i figured.
I've watched some youtube vids of guys getting cheap cars at auction and fixing them up for pretty cheap. Seems like a good way to get a nice car for a lot cheaper..... assuming you know what your doing and there is no really bad hidden damage.
Surprisingly, there were no damages under moonroof. Even the moonroof cover looks dry and like new. I ordered just a glass and will replace that instead of whole assembly.
My rear subwoofer appears to be not working. Also I noticed that there are small glass fragments in the rear deck. I am planning on ordering subwoofer, amp, trim etc. and will clean the deck and replace the subwoofer.
My only guess is after hail busted rear window, rain destroyed the speaker.
