Upgrading the center console to the newer G
I have a 2008 so it comes with the waterfall style center console; it's okay but I really like the newer style. My wee mind thinks I can retrofit but I am curious as to how much I will need to buy.
I will need to replace both pieces one and two correct? Does that falling off trim on the side need to be replaced as well?
Just curious if anyone has toyed with this before.
Thanks all

I'm sure it'll fit but why would you want it? the old one flows so much nicer than the new one. I always wondered why they changed it and made it worse.
I think you'll have to change more than those pieces. you need to change the seat heater part too, and possibly even the arm rest.

You will need the entire 2010+ center counsel and shift surround. You will have to either get the rear vents tubes or custom your own to work with the new counsel and they are different shaped between the two styles. You will also need to custom some holes for whatever option of wiring you have under the arm rest as well. Your trim will also no longer match so you might want to consider vinyl wrapping your new center pieces and stereo as well. Lastly if the counsel you source does not come with the pieces that replace the "waterfall" part of the center section you will need to source that as well (its part of the old shift surround, but on the 2010+ its a separate piece).
Personally I like the flow of the 2009s (the "waterfall") but also like aspects of the 2010+. I've picked up the parts needed to make a Frankenstein version but haven't made time to do it yet. I can tell you that just a straight swap over will be much easier as long as you get all the parts for it.

Honestly, compared to the new Q50/60, the center console on our cars looks sooo dated. I was in the dealership a couple weeks ago and they had the new Q50 sedan and the G37 Coupe (q60) and the center console is what makes the car look the most dated. That and the giant red tail lights.
It would be sick if we could somehow upgrade to the double screen.
So I wouldn't really worry about 2008 style VS newer. They are both quite old. Lol.
