With my last car, I was on a mission to powdercoat a bunch of engine bits in Black Chrome. It's a beautiful finish, very much like the Black Nickel plating process that R2C does with their intake mid-pipes.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a black chrome powder coating. I thought it all was opaque.
Good to know.

Yup that's my plan. Intake, strut bar and IFF I do an aluminum overflow tank in future. I think I'm gonna swap all(maybe just most) my hose clamps to t -bolts and have those PC'd too (if possible)

I've also seen the color referred to as "Black Smoke". It's most certainly a gun-metal kind of powdercoat, with fine metallic flake and a lot of natural depth.

Here's an old picture... coolant pipes off my '03 Maxima, powdercoated in Black Chrome:

Sounds nice. I'm waiting on my black nickel intakes. Now that I know about black chrome PC, I'll probably get my Cusco done. The clamps sound like a good idea, can they be done in black chrome?

Ah, thanks. Black Smoke is a good description.

I've yet to ask the shop near me. It's just what I would like to have done. But from what I understand any polished base and be shot with a translucent powder to achieve that look.

Did you sand that emblem?

It comes out decent. I think blnewt's suggestion for commercial clear coat could improve the look, or at least a bit of wet sanding or polishing just a bit. But on its own with the clear coat that comes in the kit is good enough for smaller surfaces like emblems.

Nope. In fact, the instructions advise against sanding before using the black chrome kit.
