I don't have TPMS on my wheels either (and like a dummy I sold my OEM wheels w/ TPMS included). But w/ the current trend of larger wheels w/ lower profile tires TPMS is something that's a good idea to have up & running. A 245/35/20 can look full and even feel pretty hard during a visual and still be quite low (ask me how I know, lol)

My next wheel set will have TPMS, and although I agree about going old school and check your ride regularly, this TPMS tech is pretty good stuff and should be taken full advantage of IMO.

Now on my old T100 truck w/ large truck tires it's simple to see & feel when your tires are low, so I definitely don't care w/ that one

How far back in the days you talking? The first car to have TPMS was the 1986 Porsche 959. They saved me once when I was going down highway, pressure sensor came on, I decided to get off at next exit. Just as I was coming off exit and had slowed down to about 25, tire blew. I was doing 80 5 mins before, and that would have been a whole different story it it blew then. So, for me modern technology is alright in my book.

The way you wrote that, it looks as if you were driving a Porsche 959 in your anectdote. Since they were never street-legal in the U.S., I know otherwise. Just sayin'...

English was not my favorite subject, and I could see hoow you may have been confused, but definitely not driving a 959. It was about as far an opposite, my girlfriends Prius.
