Whistle/high pitch sound from engine @ WOT

2012 G37S 35k miles 7AT
Owned for 7 months
Motor is all stock

Whenever I smash the gas pedal I hear a high pitch whistle sound coming from the engine area. Usually occurs mid to high rpms Almost like a Toyota Previa sound for those who knows what I'm talking about. Im almost certain this isn't a wind related noise. Is this a normal sound for our cars?

Mine did this exact thing but I had k&n typhoon intakes. I removed them and replaced with z1 intakes and the noise is gone. I know you said yours is stock but I had a similar noise. Did this noise just start?

Noise was always there since I bought it so I thought it was normal. I had a Q50 loaner and there was no sound when I smashed it. Well I guess its a visit to the stealership again but the car is under warranty so no raping the wallet this time.

maybe shoot a video of it so you have proof just in case the dealership can't replicate the noise issue....btw, nice ride! I'm originally from So Cal and moved to the East Coast, miss the San Diego weather right about now...LOL.

My car has done this since I've owned it too. Bone stock 13 Sport. My BMW did it, so I guess I just assumed it was normal. I guess not? Any suggestions? Like a leak in the intake or bad belts or something?

While i cannot answer the question at this point with a solution, I did take my car in today for this whistling issue, among other things. Funny comment by the service lady. I told her the issue only occurs at 5k and above to redline. She asked if I actually redlined the car. I said of course, that's what it's there for. She said maybe its normal operations at that high of an rpm. I told her its not and to have the techs check it out. Some people are so stupid. Why would I buy a car with 330bhp, massive big brakes, sport suspension, limited slip, sport seats, etc to cruise at 3k rpm's and below. Sorry I don't drive like a grandma.

^^That's right, shifting gears in a tight corner can cause loss of traction. That's why you have the rev range.

Well I brought the car in and tech said they did not find any issues. The service rep was a little on the jerky side and I was too tired to put up a fight. I smashed it last night and it still has the whistling sound at high Rpms. When I have more time I'll bring it back to a different dealer. I tried to make a video all I hear is wind noise trying to capture the whistle.

However the q50 that they gave does seem more responsive especially in the freeways. Then again it wasn't my car so I was smashing it like no other.

Whoa, you just brought this my attention lol there is a small cap on our intake boxes near the bottom front. I believe they're there to drain out any trash or anything when servicing but I'm not sure. Anyways. I popped the caps off to let in a little more air if possible. Thought that this is why it was whistling under full throttle. However, I just did the 30k service and after swapping filters it went away. Just realized I never heard it again. They're just purolator classics or however it's spelled.

As for the noise. I wouldn't worry about it.

I am not sure if this is related, but I get a whistling noise when I first start driving the car and it is super cold, but I do not have to redline it. It sounds like wind noise, but it's not as it goes away once the car warms up. Any ideas?

^^I notice this only on really really cold days (<30F) and only while the trans is cold. This whistle only occurs while the car is in motion.

My guess is it's thick trans fluid. I don't remember if I had this when I ran mt85 in the gear box. I did have more severe shifting issues though - such as not being able to go 1-2 until the fluid warmed up.

Check to see if the intake resonators were removed. They are the empty plastic, funny-shaped boxes sticking out the bottom of the filter housing and on the two intake hoses/tubes. Mine starting doing the whistling after I put MAF tubes and drop in Afe filters. I also removed the resonators from the housing.
