Service History
Please help me out here with some info on why this is the case. Something authoritative.
As a testament to how fat America is, I have McDonald's saved as my home address. I practically live there. Even the new employees also know me on a first name basis.
Call back again and get a different service manager. I'm sure there is something they can work out to release at least some information such as the dates of service and what was done.
Hence my question. Who says they do? Where can I find info about this because I genuinely want to learn. I don't understand why a business would be forced to provide you with information like that. If a car is financed, technically the lienholder owns it. They can't call up your dealership and have a right to see your car's service records because you got the service not them.

I don't have any info, but there possibly could be consumer protection laws to this effect. I think it is extremely unlikely though, as Carfax service would be much lower value and even at that their recordkeeping is not standardized and well kept. On the flip side, I can see that the dealer may have to maintain the previous owner's privacy in not providing documents that has all their contact info.

I requested a service history for when we sold our last GM car. Did this over the phone. They didn't even confirm the name on file. Just needed the VIN. They left the printout with the receptionist for me to pick up.
This dealer did mostly warranty work and just a few maintenance items. Either way, no hassle.
