GEICO is horrible

I'm going to guess that they only pay out a percentage of the total loss on your vehicle.

From my experience, even it was NOT your fault, they would still try and pin 10-20 percent on you, stating that you could have avoided the accident.

Because of the rolling stop, I'm going to guess that they will pay half.

I'm glad I read this thread, I'm looking around for dash cams for all my vehicles now, these be the times we live in.

When I first saw this thread, I thought the OP was Nate, our detailer. Your cars are the same down to the wheels, same color, model everything. Glad you weren't hurt in the accident.

I noticed you had a Dash cam. Seems like dash cams are becoming more popular in the us which is a good thing. Im thinking of buying one but want to experiment with the cheap ebay ones first.

Well a few phone calls this morning and here's where it all stands.
They wanted to total it because any hidden damage would pass their limit on repairs. Even now their estimate is at a hair over 70% and I had to talk them into allowing me to repair it instead of totalling it. I basically had to tell them that I'm willingly closing this claim after I get the money to fix it. I have a few friends that work in or own body shops, had them look, consensus is that this can be done easily without major work. I have full coverage so I'll be getting a check for almost 12k$ from state farm which is insane. Also according to state farm, as long as my fault is less than 50% my insurance premium doesn't go up. I'm going to have this fixed for a lot less than they're giving me so all in all I should come out on top, we'll on top. I am still waiting on the decision and assessment of fault and so on and we'll see where that goes.

And yea geico is horrible, even talking to them feels like you're talking to the late shift at Walmart, professionalism is virtually nonexistent, state farm on the other hand is f'ing awesome!

Getting ready to install these doors and see what gaps I'll have. There's a bit of paint cracking where the door hinges are bolted on so that will probably have to be pulled, a slide hammer will probably do the job. A little body work around the inside of the doors and I should be good to go. Already found a shop that stitches seats after airbag deployment. This is going surprisingly smoothly...

I always stop completely at a stop sign or red light... I got my first ticket from a rolling stop. Didn't see a car anywhere... Not even the police car that pulled me.
Never the less, I am not going to bash the op for that. He proceeded in what appeared to be an otherwise safe manner. It was the other driver's apparent failure to even attempt to slow to a safe speed at the stop sign that was the major factor here

Bocian,

Glad you were able to find the parts for a reasonable price to fix your car. If it were me I would consider letting them total the car

In my state the Insurance company is required to total the car by law once assessed at 70% damages or greater and if I were to chose to keep the car it would then be a salvaged title. It worked out for me best to total the car as I got extra money for the aftermarket parts I installed because they were so new. Long term it was more financially beneficial to total it as I would have never received that much for my car selling it outright or trading it - even with being comped for depreciation.

Bocian,
I'm wondering what that hidden damage may be if they wanted to total it. It's obviously not just 2 door, airbags and some minor touch ups.
There may be damage to the chassis or something else. If I were you I would take that money, make a quick fix not exceeding 4K, sell that car and get other g37 or whichever car you will be able to buy for about if money you will get.
Please remember after this accident, that G37 probably won't ever be the same.

When it comes to GEICO, they've been very professional with me.
Someone run into my other parked car once and they were great. They fixed whatever needed to be fixed.

BOCIAN, is State Farm actually giving you a check? . In my experience, they pay the body shop directly.

Insurance companies give you the option to take a check or have it repaired directly. If they don't give that option you can tell them to cut you a check and they'll do it.

I was making too many assumptions. If it's the other driver's insurance, you can get a check.

If it's your insurance, it depends if it's a lease or you have a lienholder.

Even if it's your insurance and you have full coverage, you have the title or not, if it's a lease or still on a loan, through all these circumstances you can still opt for having them just write you the check and be done with it.

I've been in that situation numerous times.

Here, let me quote you!!
"I should have came to a complete, but having a 4 way stop at virtually every corner, that rolling stop has become acceptable."

So? You did a rolling stop, and so did the other driver. Don't be a hypocrite.

I'm pretty sure the other driver did not do a rolling stop.

Thank you for pointing the obvious that some blatantly missed... Please read all posts before blurring out such an uneducated statement, it make you look lazy at best
