I feel like I should change things up a bit, but I love the G platform, reliability, performance for $$$, technology, etc... I considered switching platforms all together but the reliability factor. The only things I like are the BMW 335i x drive 2013 and the Audi S4 2013 and neither will give me the mileage and reliability combo I can get in the price range a 2014 q50 awd sport will right? Anyone care to weigh in on this? I'm also trying to make it through 2 more years of school and can't go over what my loan payment was before since I factored that in to my survival plan. Only thing I'm reading about the Q's is the tech can be pretty crappy and unreliable and I realize the resale is going to get spanked once the TT 3.0 comes out, but we have to have 2 cars.... Ughhh thanks for reading and Happy New Years! Part out probably coming soon.

First I'm glad that seems like things are working out for you especially with your health but they say the universe does work in mysterious ways and can be a bitch sometimes while doing it lol. I'm in your same shoes well deciding on what to replace my G with. I'm debating on a 2009-13 335, 11+ 535i, 10+s4 v6 supercharged, e55 amg, or staying in the infiniti fam but get a XS with less miles then mines and no accident or a RWD S. I test drove a q50 for a bit and didnt like it to much besides the interior and exterior. The driving characteristics felt numb and when placed in sport just made the steering feel rough and artificial. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt since it was a courtesy vehicle so its probably seen better days.

Moving on to the S4 from my research the v6 s4 are pretty reliable and dont suffer from carbon build up like most of audi's other line ups. The only thing thats holding me back is that the V6 is pretty much maxed out and theres not to much power to be gained well with out dropping stacks of money into depending on the tuner APR for example. A plus is they are pretty simple to work meaning basic maintenance and stuff and reliable thanks to the strong v6.

The 335i/535i is in the same boat pretty fast out the box and have a strong aftermarket following if you want to gain more ponies. Since its turbocharged from the box non like the Q(in the future it will) and the G a simple tune and supporting mods and you will be pushing almost 400 to the wheels which is crazy and why they have me so interested lol. As far as reliability with any bmw things can get expensive if you don't take care of it. So far the most expensive thing I heard of going out on these cars are the turbos but granted those are people who either ran to much boost while modding or just ran into bad luck.(meaning not that common of a issue but something to think about) they are also pretty easy to work on and maintain if you know how to turn a wrench. If you can Ill suggest finding a good indie or best friend who will accept payment in beer or pizza. Because at the dealer a oil change can range from 70-120 dollars vs the 35-50 dollars to change the oil on the Q or G.

So to wrap everything up, I think the best thing to do is test drive the cars you have in mind and most importantly research research research whether you're on the toilet or at work learning and being armed with knowledge is way better than going into something blind and learning the hard way. Good Luck!

Thank you that is a excellent response and helps a lot!!! And doesn't at the same time cause it makes my decision harder lol! I haven't done crazy research yet and usually I am a research fanatic that's how I settled on the G. I have 2 kids so safety is important, I like performance and tuning, insurance cost obviously matters, esthetics matter, honestly I'm even a little worried, only a little rolling up to school in a BMW or Audi. Honestly I need technology, Bluetooth and nav are a must now and I worry about future maintenance. I'm a decent mechanic, this accident actually made me go invest in a good air compressor and set of air tools, Ingersoll Rand anyone , I just worry about turbos popping or electrical issues! No one wants that! I've read about the q50 DAS and that concerns me as I really like a good feel of the road, and that was the first check mark against that car but I keep coming back to the affordability... Similarly equipped and priced 335's and S4's are all a year older and higher mileage... I'm am the worst at this... And with no car to sit on the decision and school starting back up soon the pressures on... But ughh that drive by wire that's all I hear I'm glad and sad you reminded me of that

It's a great time to research different options although not under the best circumstances
Since you're pretty well versed w/ the G platform you may consider a RWD G w/ the S package, even w/a 6MT if you want to row your own. This will give you all of what you had before plus some nice upgrades as well. You'd have the bigger fixed caliper brakes, Limited slip diff, quicker steering rack, etc.
And I assume you haven't got rid of all your parts yet, and if you're able to scavenge most of your previous upgrades that's money in the bank too.
Many around here run their RWD Gs in the winter muck and as long as you have dedicated winter tires you should be in good shape.

I'd at least put this on your list of potential options, and after coming from your modded G IMO you'd find the Q falls short at least as far as being connected to the road.

G/L w/ whatever you decide, but keep in mind we won't talk to you anymore if you go to a Q and will be instantly banned if you go Bimmer.
Oh, and Happy New Year my friend

Well with being said both the 335i and S4 will have you coverred in the tech department, that caught my eye as well due to the fact im in the IT field lol. If insurance bothers you I'm not sure which insurance company you have and your exact profile that will determine what your insurance rates will. Be but to give you an idea so to speak. I have statefarm, I'm 21 and have no kids(well that i know of lol jk), and only been in one accident and that was with the G. My insurance for my car is 347 a month and if I was to replace it with a 2010 s4 fully loaded for 22k ive been eyeing my insurance will drop around 7 bucks to $341.79 lol. It will be 351 dollars if I replaced it with a 2011 335i fully loaded ive been eyeing for 20k. So depending on who you have and your situation insurance may not vary as much as you think it will.

You can probably find out like I did without even calling your agent. By log in into your account and look for a quote feature or a replace or add vehicle quote calculator. Then like I said out of the cars you like the most and feel you can deal with insurance with. I would test drive them to get a real feel of them. Then before signing the deal do a simple google search and really decipher the wealth of information out there to see if you can live with your new whip.

The only thing else I can add about going back to a q or G at least you're already informed about them and have experience with them and or if you kept most of your mods from your old car they should transfer over nicely to your new G not to sure if you go the Q route tho.

Oh man you're gonna love when you hit 25, then marriage, then the kids you do know about lol they all save you on insurance c
Because that's almost what I pay for 6 months on 2 cars full coverage lol... Just under $500... Well that was with no accidents so sad to say that'll change. I don't know man this is a tough one for me, need safety for the family, awd and low mileage to tolerate the Buffalo winters, technology and performance so I enjoy actually driving the car, and of course an affordable car payment lol decisions decisions

Sorry to hear about your G, i crashed mine earlier this year. body shop didnt want to total it but the adjuster did lol. Fortunately they paid of the remainder of my loan and gave me a couple grand left over. Ended up getting a G again cause its a real solid car.

Health is what matters, just stay healthy bud.

I know crashing your beloved vehicle sucks but again what matters is you being healthy.

I don't know what you are really looking for but I know NY winters. If you want a trouble free, sporty awd vehicle a brand new WRX is always an option. Of course it will not be luxurious but other than that it is a great car for the money.

A CPO 335xi is also a great option imo. But don't own one without the warranty.

Audi quattro is very well known but I don't have experience with the new ones.

Thanks guys I'm on the mend and this is part of getting better, usually I'd be back in the gym by now but I'm waiting on a follow-up appointment at the cardiologist lol. I should fill in more on my car background though. I've actually had a Subaru Legacy, Audi A6 Quattro, and my first car was a 94 Nissan maxima. So the only AWD system I don't have experience with in the group is BMW. Out of those Subaru was definitely the best AWD system but their cars lack that luxury feeling that I've grown to really appreciate, no heated seats for 7 winters is something I don't want experience again lol. I still think the q50 is the best value out of the group, the g is an even better value but again something doesn't feel right going back in the same ride with everything that has happened, just gives me a weird vibe that I shouldn't force. I'm just gonna go test drive all the cars I can over the next week and hopefully that will help me make a decision.

yeah man still going through it lol, had a stress test yesterday, start cardiac rehab on Tuesday and then I have to get this thing called a loop recorder implanted in my chest in a couple weeks so they can continually monitor my heart rhythm since they still cant figure out what happened... smh... Im way to young for this crap man. Start school again in a week and then Im still car shopping too, getting closer to an S4 though, sorry guys I feel like a traitor but somethings calling me to that car and the q50 electronic steering still freaks me out a bit. But I do rally appreciate the concern like I said before that means a lot to me!! Thank you.

Wow that is crazy but if anything I'm glad your alive and from what it seems back on track to perfect health, don't stress about it your young and should bounce back if you do everything they recommend my prayer are with you man . I'm still on that same boat to of being considered a traitor or getting another G to lol. I did go today to see this nice low mileage 40k to be exact 2006 s55k amg, even started to the buying process didn't go fully through with it all though I could, but I would rather wait for a solid answer from my bank on Monday instead of driving off in it and falling in love to hear when the bank opens I have to bring it or something like that lol. I also just got **** and giggles bought a low mileage 2012 g37 rwd journey with nav and heated seats which is due for delivery Friday . My current g is awd and only has heated seats and has 48k miles and warranty almost up vs the g37 I purchase which only has 37k miles and still has way more left on the manufacture warranty on top of the 6 year extended warranty coverage I purchased from carvana vs no extended warranty on my current g. This whole process is crazy with my added madness but just speaking on the carvana experience it was actually pretty cool and easy all from the comfort of my house as they say in the reviews and no I don't work for them or anything I'm literally a crazy 21 year old Because of the process I'm taking, who hopefully does not regret this whole entire process I'm taking on getting a new car lol. I guess the great thing about this is if Monday comes and the s55 is a no go I have a secure back up car ready to go being I'm complete and fully approved and can be easily canceled since they haven't taken my down payment as long as i do it before 7 days of taking ownership of the car so in other words once it's off the truck and in my hands longer then 7 days. I mean what else can you ask for lol. Well anyways I hope everything goes well for you and you love whatever you buy and you get back healthy again good luck man

PS I totally feel why you are feeling a s4 I test drove one and it was awesome and would of got one but all the ones near me where way to over priced in there condition in my opinion lol.

Yeah the whole car buying process is crazy, but try and enjoy it for what its worth, if you can't live with the deal in the end walk away... You've got nothing to lose and from the sounds of it a pretty nice fleet going on over there Nice grab on the other G by the way. Personally I think with everything that happened to me in such a short time I'm going through some sort of quasi-midlife crisis, even though I'm 32, and looking for a change up. The S4 was next on my list after graduation anywsys but these events have put me in the "why put off till tomorrow what you can do today" mindset, however illogical/irrational that may be for this circumstance. I do however I agree with you regarding the overpricing of these cars based on mileage and condition, but, they hold that same line of overpricing the whole time you own the car, unlike the Gs which have dropped like a rock recently. Either way good luck man and thank you for the well wishes I hope you land the car you really want. Also just a heads up the banks will be closed tomorrow due to MLK day talk to ya later
