Bear with me as I have tried to read that thread a few times in the past and could not figure out what work was being done. It sounds like you had an Exotic Speed CBE on your Coupe, that you then removed and retrofitted to your sedan. You mention that the stock sedan mufflers were used, but they look custom in the photos. I'm curious to know if anyone has retrofitted a stock coupe midpipe to a sedan (smaller resonators/larger diameter tubing), then created custom 2.25 inch piping to match going from the modified coupe midpipe to the mufflers (which would need to be upgraded since they are less than 2 inch diameter inlet as well).

Also, does anyone know the specific material used for the stock exhaust? Is it aluminium-steel, galvonized, etc.?

yea no worries man, I originally had the stock muffler fit the mid pipe and you'll have to have a small pipe welded to get them to reach the mid pipe. Then had a place split the exoticspeed mufflers( Coupe muffler was a twin canister style) so I was able to just have them cut the brackets that held them together and then installed those .

In short the coupes mid pipe will bolt on no issues, Your problem will be the muffler section as the coupe muffler( Single muffler) will not fit.

Excellent. So the Y-pipes from both cars are identical. That's what I had originally thought. Thanks ANMVQ

Still surprised nobody has gone for this exhaust system yet. I wish there was a decent video of this on a G37.

It's not the money for me. It's the fact that I'd have what is essentially a brand new stock CBE to store somewhere for future use. Since I live in Socal and drive less than 9K per year, there isn't even surface rust on my current system. It's easier for me mentally to make improvements to what exist as opposed to ripping everything out and starting fresh.

I did a quick google search for reviews of this exhuast and came across a S2000 forum.

Here is a quote from someone on there

Ok guys so after about 250 miles, this exhaust is toast. I noticed a whole bunch of fiberglass on my back bumper and it got unbearably loud.
After I took it off it seems the resonator under the car just fell apart. You can hear the parts moving inside of it.
Back to the UK exhaust mod it is.. for now..

I've already contacted the seller and will be getting a full refund.
Here's a link to the thread for reference.

J2 Engineering s2k exhaust - S2KI Honda S2000 Forums

I will stick to Top Speed Pro 1 Y-Back exhaust instead. It's been around for years and quite a few members here on board own it and can verify that it is of good quality and I believe BLNEWT said he has owned his for 90k miles or so.

Had it for about 50k miles but about 4 years, and still looks & sounds great.

BTW, good find on the exhaust, hopefully that was just a bad apple, but who knows?

For $500, it's almost a throw away if it last 2-3 years right? A full stainless CBE that cost less than a dealer's 4-wheel brake job is going to have some tradeoffs. It's a given. It's hard to believe that one could manufacture something like this and make money off of it at that price.

Which Y pipe do you have paired with your Top Speed Y Back?

Also do you have any high flow cats?

I'm 99% sure he has the stock Y/Cats. That's the beauty of the Y-back as the Y-pipe on our cars is the old HR-Z Y-pipe design (highly sought after mod on the first gen G), so there is not much to be gained from swapping it out other than bragging rights - it's also a key component related to the isolation of NVH from the exhaust.

The 3rd party Test Pipes/Cats on the other have shown documented gains, but in places like CA, tampering with your cats is simply not an option.

Thats nice to know. I do plan on replacing the whole exhaust system eventually and not only the Y-Back. Initially I was planning on doing Top Speed Y-Back but if I'm going to be under the car to replace part of the exhaust I figured I might as well get a complete cat-back system that also replaces the Y-Pipe. Might as well get a set of HFC to replace stock cats while I'm down there also.

I think I made up my mind with the cat-back. It'll most likely be Invidia Q300. Price point is good. About $910 shipped. Than I'll pair it with Z1 High Flow Cats.

From all the research that I've done it appears that Kinetix & Berks High Flow cats all produce rasp even though they are advertised to not produce any.

Z1 high flow cats are really inexpensive at $388 and also have built in bracket to utilize the factory bracing. Even the FI HFC don't include that bracket and they are like $650!

I really wanted FI 18" resonated cat-back + FI Resonated HFC but both of those combined totals $2,065 not including shipping. Than you have to wait like 15 weeks...

Invidia Q300 Cat-Back + Z1 HFC totals $1,322 shipped and can be delivered within 1-2 weeks.

Factor in shipping for the FI system and I'll be saving over $800

Yep. If I add up the shipped cost of my full exhaust, plus installation labor, plus the custom work on the support bracket, and some added hardware... $2,838. That's not an insignificant amount of money, however you look at it.

But worth it, IMO.

Rochester, did you notice any excess vibration or noise with the FI Res. HFC? What made you decide to get the bracket added to it? Peace of mind?

If I could afford it than without a doubt I would go with FI. Top notch quality for sure. However I am aware that I shouldn't always try to shell out top dollar for certain items when I can just easily get away with something slightly less expensive and still be good enough.

With the $1,000 I'll be saving I can put that money towards 3.69 rear diff and a Takeda/Stillen G3 CAI. I'll eventually want to get it tuned by ECUTek sometime down the road.
