My 2010 G is getting a little old now. It's fast as heck with the Stillen blower I put on, but is gonna be the winter car in a year and I can finally get my "successful old-man car." Just a car that I like driving and not using in the winter. It will probably be the last one I buy until I retire. Thinking of the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V coupe. Maybe hold off to see what the 2017 Q60 coupe will look like and how they do the turbo engine. A third possibility is a 2017 Camaro ZL1. What have you guys considered, and what do you think of my choices? I value the opinions of those who have the passion and taste for the G like I do. It's a great car, but it's getting time to move on.

I drove a Mustang GT today. It sounded nice, but is slower than my G. I asked about the GT350, and it's pretty much a rarity. There is a brand new 2014 GT500 in Kansas City, Missouri with an MSRP of $70K$, but I don't want the old Mustang with the solid axle. The Camaro fits a bigger guy like me much better. Again, I'd need the ZL1 to have my dream car, and that won't be out in the new Camaro until 2017. The ATS looks great and has a big enough motor.

 

The NSX is pretty freakin' awesome, but there might be trouble at home if I spent that much on a car. Thankfully, it is a true 2 seater and not a 2+2. I'm not interested in a true 2 seater. I want a some kind of back seat so I can really recline the passenger seat on cross-country trips. Even the CRX's back shelf would be enough.

 

I think the ATS looks terrible. The front is decent but everything else is just plain boring. I would prefer an older ctsv if going cadillac.

 

I think the ATS-V is awesome too. My wife wants to get a GS350 F Sport next year, but I'm always working on her to go for the ATS-V. It's about $10K more than the GS for less luxury and more power.

 

How modded is your G? Without FI there's no way a new GT would be slower than the G. It's mid 4's 0-60.

 

Yeah, but he has a supercharger. However, the best I've seen them run is 12.5 and the mustang GT can do that pretty easily. I think the most deceiving thing about the stangs perceived speed is the power band is very linear so while it may not seem like its hauling *** it surely is. The new camaro will be even better based on it's initial numbers. Great time to be an enthusiast (despite the lack of manuals these days).

 

C63 AMG 507 ftw

 

The C63 is a beast but it's a little bit more pricey than the G/Q, not to mention I can't get over the fact that its not so obviously different visually from a normal C class

 

This summer, I test drove the new Mustang GT 6MT (with the mid-range rear gears). It was very noticeably faster than my lightly modded G. However, it was also crude and tacky in so many ways I can't begin to list. Cars like this and the Camaro... unless the OP values musclecar considerations, there's just no going back to your youth. Move forward, not backwards.

OP, I'm 51, and will be owning my G for at least another 4-5 years, so the consideration of my next car (prior to old-man basic transportation) is something I think about from time to time, too. Personally, I'm pretty serious about the Jaguar F-Type S. However, and in my opinion, Jag way overvalues their beautiful F-Type. So in so far as my plans go, I'm targeting a used Jag in my future, in the hopes of appropriate depreciation.

And like you, the other car that has potential for my list is the new Q60.

A G37 with a supercharger as a winter car? Kind of hard to process that, but OK. Wow.

 

Well CTS-v, ATS and NSX all came into the conversation so if the OP has that kind of $ to spend it's not ludicrous to suggest the two or four door C63.

Additionally, its looks are a big reason why I love that car so much. It doesn't scream "look at me" till you mash the pedal down and let loose the barbarian sound of the 507 exhaust. Most people wouldn't even know what it is unless they see the AMG badge making it a mega sleeper.

If I needed to replace my car it would most likely be a Chevy SS with a 6MT.

I'd probably try to convince my wife on me getting a M3 or ATS-V, but I doubt I would be successful

 

Due to escalating back problems which are making it harder for me to get into and out of my G, probably some kind of SUV. One from Infiniti? Maybe..........
