G37s sedan with ART pipes on STOCK exhaust

Hello, I'm new to the forums. Purchased my G a couple months ago and I'm looking to buy ART pipes but I'd like to keep my stock exhaust. I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find sound clips of a g37 sedan running these on a stock exhaust. Has anyone heard them or does anyone run this?? Thank you!

What are your intentions with doing this? Just curious. If it's just for sound, I'd do a muffler delete. That sounds great on this car, and the cost is minimal.

That's true. Although with a muffler delete, the noise never stops like it would at cruise or idle with a properly muffled car.

The OP can't be looking just for noise. If he were, then he'd be targeting the catback, and not the cats. For over a year, I had the OEM catback matched up to a pair of resonated cats from FI, and the added sound was barely noticeable. It was deeper and louder, no doubt, but hardly so anyone would notice. There certainly was a power add, however. That was undeniable.

You know, once you get the car up on the lift and start studying the OEM exhaust, the quicker you'll grow to hate it. It's a hot mess of crimps, heat shields and little pipes with crappy bends.

After youtubing muffler deletes and reading a lot of comments everyone says it's quiet at idle and cruise.

On the videos it's definitely quiet and stock like at idle.

Have you done muffler deletes on your G prior to getting a CBE Rochester?

I ask because I'm kind of considering it. I've always been against doing muffler or resonator deletes on other cars but the muffler delete on the G37 sounds so good. No rasp, drone or rattle can sound on Rev up

Not on the G. Although I did have open headers on a TransAm about 30 years ago. Um, unintentionally LOL

Last summer I met up with a G37 Coupe owner who had a muffler delete. It made a surprisingly good first impression, but that kind of loud isn't for me. I wouldn't use the word "quiet" at all when at idle. Let's just say subdued. We met up in a parking lot, and as it turned out he was originally in the lot across from me on a busy street. Soon as he started his car, I knew it. You can't help but know it.

There's a whole lot of subjective evaluation here.

My muffler delete is pretty quiet once warmed up at idle. The car sounds a lot louder when you are driving it. But, from an onlookers perspective. I don't think it loud at all. OP, I'm in the same boat as you deciding my next move for a HFC or ART pipe.

You have sold me on going with this set up (staying w/OEM catback - FI resonated cats) which i was seriously considering before hand but just wasn't 100% sure i would get the results i wanted. But that set up/description is exactly what i'm looking for, for now. I don't want a loud exhaust. Deeper will work. The extra power add will most definitely work.

I'm not only adding the art pipes for sound. From what I read ART pipes add a solid amount of power and I'll also eventually get the full catback.

Just out of ccuriosity. Do you lose power with a muffler delete? Due to back pressure...is that true? Better gas mileage?

With all due respect, having deleted my mufflers back in February and taken 2 road trips, I disagree.

In my car at 80 mph, the tires (both the older hankooks and newer Michelin PS AS3) and wind are louder than both the stock exhaust or muffler delete.

At idle once the cats heat up the noise is only slightly louder than stock.

Where it is louder is under load. Noise level is directly proportional to throttle position.

Having been into performance cars for over 30 years and having owned a number of different makes and models as well as many different types of exhaust systems, I can say that this setup has minimal to no drone at light throttle, unlike other aftermarket exhausts Ive run.

I hate drone. But I do enjoy some racket when getting on the gas.

The muffler delete with resonated tips and stock cats delivers exactly that. No drone at highway speed or steady light throttle cruise, low noise at idle, and can be loud at WOT.

It's very easy to test this yourself if you have stock exhaust. Simply unbolt the clamp holding the mufflers to the exhaust pipes, and disconnect them (but leave them in place). Go drive around for a little while and try different speeds, throttle openings etc and see for yourself. I drove around for an hour like that testing every possible scenario: windows up, windows down, stereo cranked, stereo off, highway, 2 lane, town, traffic lights, hills, WOT, etc.

It costs nothing to test. (ETA: Don't leave it like that though. Reconnect your mufflers once testing is complete. I paid $120 for new pipes and $40 for two resonated tips once I decided I liked the sound)

I'm sure the FI exhaust sounds sweet, but if you don't have an extra $1500 but want a little more noise out of your G, muffler delete accomplishes that and doesn't kill the ride quality with drone.

I speak from the experience of shelling out big $ for aftermarket exhaust systems that I ended up hating and re-selling due to excessive drone

That was well-written and could be very convincing for someone considering a muffler delete on the G37. If I hadn't heard a G with a muffler delete before, I'd be tempted. And to your point, it cost $0 to find out.

I'll admit it, WhiteG_6MT's post convinced me to do the muffler delete. But I also would like to keep my stock mufflers/tips just in case the dealership wants to void my warranty if i were to bring it in or if my wife ends up not liking it.

WhiteG_6MT, where did you get your new pipes and resonated tips at for that price?

If you want instant satisfaction, you can shop around local muffler shops and get a better visualization in person. Or, most popular performance muffler (magnaflow) companies make resonated tips.
