Damn man try reading his post.

If you would have read it you would have known that he had both his front bumper and his ebay lip painted at the same dealership at the same time using the same prep work and materials.

doesnt matter . every shop screws up once in a awhile. we dont kno wat happened maybe that day the shop had some noob prep the lip while the experienced guy prepped the bumper. the paint doesnt stick to the lip and its bc the lip is of some low quality.? give me a break man

Cheers.

You apparently have no clue when it comes to any body work. Yes, the materials do matter. Cheap parts also come with cheap base coats/primer which only adds to their low quality. It was painted and prepped by the same person, my good friend who's been doing this work for 15+ years with a few certifications including in new water based paint. I was actually there watching him prep and paint while assembling my car after it was painted. Aftermarket parts are cheap for a reason, that's not to say that all are bad. But in this case it is. My aforementioned friend and I had bought salvage cars before, fixed them and sold them. My prior cars were salvage as well and I've used aftermarket parts and oem, both used and new. The cheaper the aftermarket parts, the worse it is. Hood are especially prone to this just like bumpers and lips since they all are subject to impacts from rocks and debris. After a relatively short time, chips are everywhere and in some cases, rust develops as well. I have a decent amount of experience with this so save your speculative assumptions.
And no, break not given...

I do know about paint and prep and I am with saywat. The paint chipped and flaked, not the lip itself. The lip is lower to the ground and is going to take more abuse from road debris. The lip is not at fault for paint chipping off it.

So u kno that rocks and debris will hit lips and cause paint chips etc and u still blame the lip material esp knowing that painted stock parts chip too?

Of course stock parts chip too but not at this rate. I had other lips on my cars, any lip that was factory oem held up fine, just like my current bumper. Can you explain why the entire bumper near the lip is in pristine condition while the p.o.s. lip is chipped all over? They were painted at the exact same time, nothing was different. I highly doubt the rocks and debris only hit the lip. I'll take pictures in the day time to show what I mean. The bumper is perfect, lip is chipped. With all those chips, simple statistics would dictate that the bumper should have some chips as well yet it doesn't. The paint job is not the culprit here. The base coat/primer and/or materials that were used for the lip is cheap because the lip is cheap and adhesion is just really poor. I have seen this before on other aftermarket parts, hoods especially since they take a lot of debris impacts. I am a fan getting cheaper parts and saving money but in this case, I'd advice against it based on my experience and that of someone who's been doing this for 15+ years. Coincidentally, he had warned me that the lip may chip due to this very reason.

Paint adhesion being poor has nothing to do with the quality of the lip.....

So your reasoning for the paint chipping and flaking is simply that it's lower and the bumper doesn't get hit with debris? Come on, common sense should've kicked in by now

Yes that's one common scenario. But u already answered why ur paint flaked. U said u used cheap base and paint bc u bought a cheap lip.

I think he is trying to imply the materials used on the lip were cheap which made adhesion poor. No matter what he thinks, the quality of the lip has nothing to do with his paint problems.

So I just dropped off my ebay lip and oem deck spoiler at Maaco. They quoted me $150 so I said lets do it. I was going to buy color match spray paint, primer and clear to do it myself but figured it was a good deal. I'll post pics when I install them. Should I tape up the lip when I install it?

always add tape for aftermarket lips. it helps secure the lip and fill in gaps for a cleaner look. only noobs dont add tape.
