I'm going to sound like an idiot, but this piece came off of my center console (I didn't notice it until a few days later) and I have absolutely no idea how it fits back in. I've tried to wedge it back into the center console several ways, but I'm totally stuck. In looking at it, there may be some tabs that broke off, but even that's not clear.

The piece is around 4"-5" long and around 2" wide. 1/2" thick.

My friend has the 2009 g37x but his center console is a totally different configuration.

Does anyone know how this thing fits it, where it fits in, and if it's broken?

I'm not even ruling out that this isn't for the console at all, but something that broke off somewhere else. I wrote the part number (which is stamped on the piece) on the image below.

Isn't that the little insert for the cup holder? I do remember pulling it out once to clean the cup holder. It should just drop right back into place.

 

Definitely something with the cup holder! I swear, I can't figure out what it does or where it goes! I really appreciate the help.

 

I think it goes toward the back of the cup holder, flat side down. I think there is a little slot or groove that it drops into, holding it in place. I'll check mine in the morning :-D

 

That is exactly what it is. I removed mine once accidentally.

 

Mine came out a day or so after I got mine. Here's the thread I started about it:

It will slide right back in, but you have to line up the groove first.
