Hey fellow G drivers! I'm trying to wrap my chrome window trim with Gloss Black Vinyl. I got some 3M 1080 Gloss Black Vinyl. I did my Belt line trim as it was easy to take off and wrap since it just a straight piece! now I have a question for guy's that used Gloss Black. after I out the trim I did back on car it looks like it has like scuff looking marks on the glossy part...? and I only used my fingers to press on the Vinyl to the trim. Upon further inspection of the Vinyl roll I bought...it has the same scuff looking marks on the whole roll....some area did not have any. I called the guy's at IConWraps where I bought it from. the guy there said it's called modeling and the scuff looking marks are from 3M's Maunfacturing. This sucks....Now he said to heat it up and it may start to disappear....or lightly buff it with a wet carbon fiber towel and polish??....Now did anyone else who got this done have the same marks on their Vinyl? and did the marks go away after 2 week like the tech guy told me?? or is there Vinyl out there that does not have these ugly marks and is not too pricey?? I just wasted $45 if not? I need more info before I decide to buy more for the top curvy part of the doors.

 

You should just have the shop paint it for you bro! I'm sure they got a lot of gloss black leftover from repairs quite often?

 

Sup Bro! HAHA yea they do...but dunno if the paint would adhere well to Chrome?? U think can?? LOL

 

That's a bummer Mike, I've used a lot of the glass black 3m Scotchprint and never had any scuff marks on the pieces. I'd try Autovinylsolutions.com I get all mine there and always been fine.

I just realized...this is where I got the wrap from! I think it's the way they shipped it to me in that cardboard tube! It maybe was sliding around in that thing and marred the glossy side! But the guy there told me all the 3M vinyl that's glossy comes like that from manufacturing! Ughhh... Dunno what to do now! Want to try again but hate to waste $$$ if it comes to me same way again!

 

The painter would have you prep the trim before he sprayed it, sand off the chrome and work up in grit. Prime then paint, like a regular panel. Would last a lot longer than vinyl too.

 

Yea I gotta ask him...but I did what the Sales guy told me to do...used a good heat gun from work...those blemishes came right out! looks blemish free now. time to order more for the curvy top side. Vinyl it is for now. LOL

 

BTW, watch out, my rack/pinion went out earlier this year and my starter gave out last week. Elite warranty FTW

 

WOW...Really. Oh boi...But I hardly drive my G...Has only 27,000mi. Hopefully I don't get those probs right away! I don't have any extended warranty! I Sold the Stang...got a new 13 F-150 5.0 Crew. it's already modded some with a Drop, Intake and Exhaust! LOL.
