Splash Guards Question

Hey guys I was looking into getting Splash Guards for my G sooner than later. My real question is do they actually serve a purpose or more just for the look?

I want to get them to install them before the winter reason I asked.

Thanks

mine have proved to be somewhat useful. in the past i would get wet leaves splattered on the rocker panel and lower rear bumper behind the rear wheel. after installing the splash guards i notice the leaves do not make it past the splash guard and get all caught up on the wheel well facing of the guard. it's easy enough to knock off the crud from this surface for a quick clean.

Extremely effective if there are freshly asphalted streets in your area. Might not be as noticeable on your black car but on my red G road tar stands out like a sore thumb. The rear seems to throw more on the body than the fronts, which I found ironic since the front wheels pivot. You'd think the front would be the main offender.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket that are made specifically for the G. With that I'd suspect most, if not all generic universal jobs would look tacky. There is a mix of form & function with the OEM ones.

I purchased a brand-new set of OEM splash guards from the same ebay seller who sold all the midnight grills for cheap. He has (had?) several brand-new sets of front & rear painted in factory SILVER. I painted them red and installed them. Instructions are included and it takes no time at all to install. Its a combination of screws (included) and double sided tape (also included and comes pre-installed). With a stubby Phillips screw driver, you are looking at a couple 2-3 minutes per corner. Fronts are easiest as you can simply turn the wheel sharp. If you are due for a tire rotation, then thats probably the best time to install these, with the wheels removed.

Here is a link to the ebay listing.

He has them for $25 or "make offer". I offered $19 but they declined, tried $21.50 and they accepted, so with $13.38 shipping I am out $35 plus a little red paint & my time. If your car is silver, then you are good. If you want to order from your dealer expect to pay much more, but they come pre-painted your OEM color. I didn't snap any pictures but its super simple, double sided tape and a coupe screws per corner, no curve ***** or measuring or thinking required. I put well over 100K miles on my previous G35X and never lost one, so they are quality. Good luck.

i got OEM factory accessories. unless a guy is doing a body kit i can't see any reason to get anything else. they come color matched to whatever color your car is so no painting required.

the install is a very simple DIY. there is a DIY thread somewhere on here so search for that. no special tools are required, and total time is ~1-1.5hrs from start to finish. ans that's working carefully as i was.

LOL, I didn't even realize that I have them. They were on the car when I bought it. I even almost bought the ones linked above as they are already the color of my car. Glad I brought out this pic of my car before buying...

Thank you very much GAWD. $35 shipped (offered accepted $20) and painted liquid platinum is a steal.
