Number of units sold is irrelevant though.

The OP just needs to test drive a bunch of cars. I find threads like this suffer from the "it's easy to spend someone else's money" syndrome.

Yep, go find something you like that you can afford. Do the math. One of the early posters nailed it...how important is that gas cost differential to you?

My advice: find a reliable car you like and can afford new, then buy it used. It took me until middle age to actually do it, but I'm glad I did.

I agree with the "find something you like" sentiment. I was pointing out the universe seems to like the 3/4 series very much...BMW must be doing something correctly, even though the ATS "is superior" in every way. Sales don't lie and in no way am I saying get "a BMW".

I myself just got another G.

Drive a Cadillac ATS 2.0 Turbo with the manual. Cheap, fast, very efficient, and IMO the best handling entry sport-lux chassis on the market. Superior to the 3 series in handling, luxury and technology. Cadillac has a good extended warranty for cheap as well, as reliability could be a concern. The only reason I am not driving one is bc I have a large frame and the B pillar interferes with my driving position.

Ummmmm, a caddy, much alone the not so easy on the eyes ats model?

LOL, next, have you seen the numbers for that car because the G still trumps this "newer " car even with it being long in the tooth. Here are the numbers for the ATS in case you misread it,

2014 Cadillac ATS 2.0T
BASE PRICE $43,020
PRICE AS TESTED $45,860
VEHICLE LAYOUT Front-engine, RWD, 5-pass, 4-door sedan
ENGINE 2.0L/272-hp/260-lb-ft turbo DOHC 16-valve I-4
TRANSMISSION 6-speed automatic
CURB WEIGHT (F/R DIST) 3404 lb (51/49%)
WHEELBASE 109.3 in
LENGTH x WIDTH x HEIGHT 182.8 x 71.1 x 55.9 in
0-60 MPH 5.7 sec
QUARTER MILE 14.3 sec @ 97.3 mph
BRAKING, 60-0 MPH 114 ft
LATERAL ACCELERATION 0.89 g (avg)
MT FIGURE EIGHT 26.7 sec @ 0.66 g (avg)
EPA CITY/HWY FUEL ECON 21/31 mpg
ENERGY CONS., CITY/HWY 160/109 kW-hrs/100 miles
CO2 EMISSIONS 0.79 lb/mile

The G sedans base price is 35k (8k cheaper), It's half a second quicker, and they are pretty much equal on the skidpad.

Back to the drawing board dude.

This. The ATS 2.0 is a $30K car with a $15K emblem.

Basically, the entire Cadillac brand is a scam. Has been for decades. Occasionally, something comes along that's unique and special (CTS-V, Allante), but overall buying a Cadillac is a tax on posers without taste or good judgement.

Keep the car, get a motorcycle. 40-50 MPG all the time with plenty of fun factor.

Maybe you're right. What do those amateurs over at Motor Trend know anyways?

"The all-new 2013 Cadillac ATS manages to find the sweet spot between these sport sedan stalwarts. It provides equivalent performance, nearly identical driving enjoyment, more sophisticated technology and better value than the 3 Series. It also feels substantially more advanced and refined than the G37 without costing substantially more money."

Hey, cut the writers at Motortrend some slack! Given their always honest and unbiased opinions consistently applied to BMW, they're above reproach.

No, wait...

As for personal opinions, every time I get inside a Cadillac, I have a SMH moment at all the tacky, and just want to get out. Puke.

If I wanted to drive a couch, I would have bought the Q50.

Stop comparing cars based on magazine reviews. Base your opinion on your own experiences and seat time.

I formerly owned a cts, and spent 3 weeks in various ATS 2.0 and 3.6 loaners which I thoroughly "tested". I have also owned 2 bmw's. I gave my original opinion based on that experience, to assist the OP. When that opinion was mocked I provided the opinion of "professionals".

Your assistance is not needed, but thanks.

Your condescending tone is not needed. Enjoy your ATS.

Guess what? In the context of what prompted your Motor Trend professionals, no one mocked your opinion. However, I did put my incredibly heavy-handed "caddy sucks" opinion out there, and you took it personally. If I were you, I wouldn't get too bunched up about it though, it happens. Car guys are a sensitive breed.
