I saw some others on the forum here with similar issues before and also a couple of Youtube videos demonstrating the same rattle noise in the cat. Fun!

So I had the same concern as you with the parts breaking up and getting sucked back into the motor - supposedly there is a mesh covering the end(s) of the converter that will prevent this from happening.
