g37 sedan journey RWD vs g37x sedan AWD

Im planning to buy a 2013 infiniti g37. But I can't decide between a RWD or the AWD. Which one do you think would be better, more fun to drive and faster?

Do you want to SHIFT or let the car do it?
Do you have Ice and Snow to drive through?
Im in Ohio so the AWD became a requirement and thus the auto 7 speed came with it.

A small concession as my wife may need to drive it and she hates manual trans.

Also mods are fewer for the awd X model. Get the S version no matter whether you get and X or not

I live in Ohio as well but does AWD give you that much of an advantage? Plus the roads themselves usually don't have that much snow only the parking lots and driveways are covered in snow. I'll most probably get an automatic (sucks I know, but I'll most probably be slower in a manual as my shifting sucks! also most of my driving will be within the city).
However which one is more fun to drive and faster RWD or AWD?

Just be aware that the sport model for the RWD and AWD are different. The AWD is an appearance package, which includes: sport seats with adjustable bolstering, 18" non-staggered sport wheels, paddle shifters, sport front bumper, sport side rocker panels, and sport pedals. While the RWD sport gets: VLSD, sports tuned steering, larger 4 piston front and 2 piston rear Akebono brake calipers with larger rotors, sports tuned suspension, in addition to the appearance package the AWD gets.

I've had both the AWD sport and the RWD sport and the RWD sport is a lot more fun to drive. With the AWD you get peace of mind that you can take corners a little faster, better traction in the rain/snow, and usually better launches off the line, but its not as much of a adrenaline rush as it is with the RWD. I've broken the back end out a few times taking a corner too fast, which can be a lot of fun. If you can afford to have two sets of tires, winter and summer, then go for the RWD, if you can't or don't have the space then go with the AWD.

11G is right about an RWD. So it depends on your experience with a stick and an RWD and is it a daily commuter or a fun weekend car. Who else has to drive it. Is your commute sit and go. Etc...

Go drive them both. I choose the AWD on purpose, and most likely will do very little mods. If you are going to mods it alot then dont get the X

I got the x. If I could go back in time, I would've gotten a rwd 6 spd s model. Awd is ok, but it's a little clunky in this car and snow tires are more than enough imo

I don't see why mods have anything to do with it. Just about the only thing you can't do is a final drive. I've modded just about everything on my car, and while selections can be more limited, the awd doesn't really preclude mods. Akebonos, suspension, full exhaust, etc. Just about the only thing my car doesn't have that a stock s does is the steering ratio (and iirc someone is investigating retrofitting the s rack and pinion.)

Limited choices in coilovers and springs but over all you are correct.

This car would mainly just be used for going to college, shops etc. i don't plan to keep two sets of tires though but i might install an exhaust, air filters, body kits and rims after the warranty will end.

The RWD Sport is a driver's car, the 6MT even more so... but the Journey and X, not so much without modifications.

Having a hobby car while in college is a serious distraction, and from what you just wrote, it seems like you've got a decent set of priorities. That said, get the AWD, go to school, get good grades and graduate with a good job. Then go buy a car that is more fun to drive. In the meantime, you could do a whole lot worse than a G37x.

Made the switch to AWD and while it is fun in the snow, my RWD+snow tires got me around just fine and in some aspects, entertained me a lot more... I have winter tires on my AWD so the thing is damn near a mountain goat, but there is still part of me that likes RWD more... I am weird but I just can't get into the AWD in winter craze.

And don't even get me started on the AWD in the summer. Feel like im piloting a cruise ship. But my hatred of this car's AWD system and overall setup of this so called 'sports sedan' is well documented. The driving experience of the car itself has actually made me hate Infiniti as a brand overall for shorting AWD owners on a brilliant car... but I digress.

Cliff notes from me? If you like to drive, get a RWD. I don't even care if it is a non sport, it will still be more fun than an AWD.

I have a 2011 g37x non sport and I still have fun driving the car.. I don't know how to drive stick and have never had a RWD MT car so I wouldn't be considered a driving enthusiast like alot of the members here. Coming from my past Civic and Honda's though, I love the car. I deal with alot of traffic in Northern NJ so I can't really race or corner crazy around here anyway. I get my speed bursts in now and then when I can though and it still pushes me back into my seat.. Plus I can smoke my cigs and eat a cheeseburger without having to worry about shifting lol

I'm pretty much like you, not much of a driving enthusiast. However that doesn't mean i'll get a toyota corolla and be happy with it just because it can tAke me where i want to go.
The AWD in the infiniti is actually better for me as i can't keep separate snow tyres. But the only thing i'm worried abt is that both the models have the same engine but the awd is heavier and consumes more fuel. So basically i'm paying more for a slower and less efficient vehicle.

I know it's heavier and consumes a bit more fuel, however, I'm not sure if it's slower.. I read somewhere the X is actually quicker off the line due to the way the power is distributed from the AWD system from a standstill.

And the AWD might not be as fun as a RWD MT but I'm sure it's still nowhere near a corolla lol
