Cruise Control Won't Set

2009 G37XS with regular style cruise control (no ICC) and the cruise is on but unable to set a speed. I searched this site and found some tips to check out. Tonight I was able to set the cruise control if I pulled the brake pedal up a bit. Would this be a brake pedal linkage setting problem or a brake switch problem?

Were your windshield wipers on? Cruise doesn't work with windshield wipers on.

thx - I've read that somewhere today. I think it's hilarious. But no, the wipers were not on during any of the tests. I've had the car for 3 months now and I can confirm that, at least in my case, the cruise control usually works just fine while the wipers are on.

The problem here seems to be as if the brake pedal was being slightly pressed and not allowing the cruise to set.

Wow, I bought my G in 09 and I've never noticed that. I'm looking forward to some rain just to find this out for myself. Thanks for pointing that out BB.

I believe the cruise works if they are on any intermittent speed but not if they are in a full on position. At least that's the way it works in my 08.

I had this problem too. It was the brake position sensor switch.

Jazzmang has got it, I had to replace the entire break pedal & switch.
This was after a small front hit 4k in damages.
They couldn't figure out what it was til I drove it.
It had some excessive play, never ever heard of it til I had 37.
Had a 35 sedan never any issues with brakes, yet the 08 37,not as much luck .
4 Brake jobs in 48k, each time with rotors, I feel your pain.

Yup, sounds like what the two previous posters have said - brake pedal switch. This happened on my wife's Civic - defective brake pedal switch kept the cruise from engaging most of the time.
