Yeah, I agree completely. The convertible top just ruins some of those perfect lines that the coupe has. I actually even prefer the cleaner lines of the standard F-Type coupe (S and R models) to the slightly busier body work on the SVR model, but I'm completely in love with the seats in the SVR so that's one of the main reasons the SVR is at the top of my list.

I was actually considering a Lotus Evora 400 as well. It is a blast to drive and feels extremely lite and nimble... It's really just a phenomenal handling car, but after spending less than a half hour in the car I had to get out of the car and stretch my legs because my knee was hurting me so bad. It's just a very cramped cabin... so cramped that even if your a fairly small guy like me your legs will feel trapped and you'll most likely be bumping elbows with your passenger across the center console. And speaking of getting out of the car. It has a fairly wide sill plate which makes ingress and egress quite difficult... especially for someone that is just a bit beyond middle aged.

 

I got to autocross an Elise once, and lap Nurburgring in a rented Exige. Bliss.

I think they come down to torso length. I'm 5' 10" but have a longer torso. I fit in those and small Japanese cars like the MR2 just fine.

 

Lucky you! I raced SCCA and ran track days for many year and would have loved to have run a lap at the 'Ring. And unfortunately now that I'm getting olded I don't think I could handle more than even a few laps at Buttonwillow without some pain.

Yeah, that does make some sense. I'm 5'10 as well, but I have a shorter torso and longer legs... Plus I have a bad left knee from years of sports injuries, so that doesn't help either. But even the shoulder width inside those cars in lacking. If you have a small child or even your wife or girlfriend in the passengers seat then you will probably be fine, but if your taking one of your buddies for a spin in it then you will most likely be fighting for center console real estate. Makes total sense as a track day car where the driver is the only person in the car, but probably not the best car if you typically drive around with a passenger.

 

Oddly enough I have no problem fitting in a W20 MR2 or even an NB Miata, which my Dad owns. But the Lotus triplets are a whole different story, even the slightly larger Evora seems terribly cramped inside.

 

If my wife or child rode with me once in a lotus, I’d likely have the car to myself from then on. Most of my buddies are <track> folks , so...

14k is probably stiffer than you want for street use, 12k is more what you want. I have 8k rear springs and they aren't much stiffer than stock. However, to maintain balance, you'll want 10k rear spring rate.

I would definitely consider a Lotus if I was looking for a track day car. The Exige is probably the perfect track day car, but I'd probably still lean towards the Evora just for the little bit of extra comfort.

 

Just as Slartibart already mentioned, the 14 kg/mm springs are probably going to be a bit too stiff for the street and 8 kg/mm is a little on the soft side for the rear on a sedan. For me the idea street/sport set-up is around 12 kg/mm front and 9 kg/mm to 10 kg/mm for the rear.

 

It does, but not enough to make up for the significantly stiffer front rate. You 'll need an adjustable rear sway bar to dial in appropriate balance, in my opinion.
