You'd be surprised how reasonable international freight has gotten. I purchased my rear spoiler, front lip, front grill and side skirts from Carbon Signal and the shipping rates were actually quite reasonable. I had them all shipped from Dubai via air freight for less then I could have shipped them via air freight from the East Coast to California.

 

My G35X has dents in the hood from icicles falling off my gutters . That and some rust is showing up too, drivers fender and the door sill.

 

I bought my 2013 G37x sedan in 2016. Has 45,000 miles on it now.

The car had the illuminated sill trim on it when I got it. (Hard to believe that some paid $450 extra for those when the car was originally purchased...)

These seem to be glued onto the sill, and there is often some rust-colored moisture around these panels on the sills. Maybe the sills are rusting underneath these illuminated trim pieces...?

Here in Chicago we have a lot of sloppy snow with road salt on our shoes in the winter. It's impossible not to get this on the sills when entering the car.

Anyone else seeing rust in this location?

No, but even the stock ones rust at that location.

 

By the way if you haven't seen this video review of the G37, you should have a look. It's from Consumer Reports, and the smooth voiced narrator is calmly saying "...it has a nice interior...comfortable ride..." all the while he is drifting the hell out of the car on a track.
ROARRR....SCREECHHH...."...good drivers seat....good voice recognition system...." SCREEEECCCHHHH.....SIGNIFICANT TIRE SMOKE....ROAR....

 

Going to the local Autoshow this weekend.

It's a decent afternoon, but doesn't really take more than an hour to feel like you're done. It's all we got.

 

Chicago has a big annual auto show (biggest in the US) but I normally do not go. I see too many wonderful cars that I can not afford and cars that would not be good for me but that I want.....

I have to say, though, that it was a visit to the Chicago Auto Show a few years back that led me to buying my 2013 G37x sedan. But it was ROUND ABOUT! HAHAHAHA I was impressed by the Subaru exhibit at the show. At the time I had a 1994 Celica GT that was getting long in the tooth and I was planning on replacing it "in a few years."

I liked the Subaru emphasis on safety, their reliability and modest price when new. And I was REALLY ATTRACTED by the all-wheel drive. I was tired of getting stuck in deep alley snow with my old Celica.

So as the time came to actually pull the trigger on a car, I researched the Subaru models and I found two things which I did not like: 1. Their used car price is quite high - good for owners but bad for me who wanted to buy a used car. 2. The models I was interested in all had CVT's. ( ICK! )

So then I took a look, what other small-ish sedans or hatchbacks offered all wheel drive? Well there are quite a few. But some have CVT's. And some are German, break often and cost a fortune to operate. Aha- but what's THIS? Infiniti? Gee a 2 or 3 year old low mileage G37x does not cost too much, because there are a ton of them around coming off lease.

And it's a "premium" car, very nice car.

And the 2013 G37 is rated the 2nd most reliable sedan available by Consumer Reports, with only some (boring) Lexus models being more reliable.

And - wait, what?!?!?! 340 horsepower! Good handling! Along with excellent reliability? DONE!

All that was left was to choose the color. The lousy gas mileage in town doesn't really bother me because I drive so little - 3,500 miles a year or less.

And I am really happy with everything about the car I got. Bought a CPO car from a dealer. The salesman took me out and said "Yeah these have some power" and did a 0-60 run in downtown Chicago, which shocked me because there was fierce acceleration that I did not expect. After this little demonstration the salesman and I looked at each other and we each had silly grins. I immediately told him, "Go back to the dealership, I'm ready to sign."

With Michelin "Premier" all season tires on the stock 18 inch wheels the AWD has been ABSOLUTE DOPE in Chicago's snow. (And the taller profile of the 18 inch tires has been very forgiving on the horrible potholes that Chicago has instead of pavement.)

 

It's amazing how bad chinese sellers on ebay are at posting quality pictures of their own products. I ordered some carbon fiber side skirts that looked some what questionable, but the quality was actually really good lol. A pleasant surprise but it just makes me wonder why they are so incapable of making their products look good in ads.

OT but man today was like christmas for me . 5 packages today alone.

Weather in the 30's and 40's starting Saturday! I can finally work on my car potentially.

 

Waiting for some warm days as well... I need to install my big brakes and HFC!

 

Yeah my list is too long lol. But yeah, brakes/suspension/exhaust are on the top of my list since I can sell all the stuff I'm replacing.
