I feel like the caliper should have 1/2 inch more coverage... like they sent me the one for a 13” rotor.... the rust ring is unsightly.


Is this a real concern, and should I contact Wilwood? Brakes have 600km on them now.

 

That coverage looks about right from the few I've seen. You can sand off the rust and shoot a few coats of VHT Flameproof, then do a light re-bed of the pads to scrub the rotor and cure the paint. Might give them a call though and ask why the rust is so prevalent. Aggressive bed-in of the pads can scorch the rust prevention, so that may be the case here but ???

 

I didn’t think I bed them in too aggressively, faught a bit of pad slap in the front right before I could get them to seat properly. So I suppose that could have caused me to heat them up in FFS aggression lol

Brakes work great, zero fade in the one semi aggressive back road drive I have had on them. Haven’t had a chance to drive the car much lately due to work so I was disappointed to come home to the ring of rust.

Rears have zero rust ring.

I've run three track events in my car and haven't faded the Akebonos. That said, I think the Wilwoods would offer more stopping power. I'm a little bit disappointed with Akebonos in that regard.

 

Yea, I was braking a little more then I would need too just to see what they were all about. They stop strong and I was coming from Akebono’s, albeit ones in need of front pads and rotors.

I just went down to the store and notice a new(ish) noise.. probably just getting more prominent. Warm day and windows down may play a factor. There is a distinct click when getting on and off the throttle.. about the same time as the shifter moves that little bit. Is the the sign or a warn/failing tranny mount? Sounds to be coming from under the car from what I can tell.

 

I think they're fine for the street, but a lot of people on the Z board say the same thing about ultimate stopping power. Recall Car & Driver totaled a 370 Nismo running the Lightening Lap due to brake fade. A follow up article speculated they don't have adequate cooling

 

Have spent some time on the Z board, I know of the cooling issues. Were I to continue tracking the G, I would buy the Stillen ducts.

lol, noise issues are so hard to diagnose on the net esp w/o a sound clip, but what you describe without more, does sound like worn mount....except for maybe the click, that would have me looking at CV axles...good news is tranny mounts are cheap on these cars and super duper easy to install, if you're up there in mileage might want to just change it out...I had some vague movement in my shiftier sometimes a long time ago so I threw in a new tranny mount, when I took out the old one it was completely torn, wouldnt have guessed it from the mild symptom... hope that helps

 

I've never experienced this. That said, I only roll windows down if I'm alone, and then between the AC, exhaust and cranked up stereo, I'm oblivious to the little noises my car is likely making. And my hearing sucks (or so my wife says)

I love the sound of my exhaust and engine. However, if there's just one little noise that's wrong, it burrows under my skin and makes me miserable. It really doesn't matter which car it is, although it's a worse experience when it's my G.

You know the guy who always says, "Did you hear that noise? Here, listen for it" when you're driving with him? That's me.
