Do you get any feedback on knock? If so probably best to get a tank of 100 octane and find out very gradually.

Changing Spark Plugs

How often should the spark plugs be done on the G? Also, how hard is the DIY, and what else do you need besides the actual plugs?

You can just follow the factory schedule for plugs. If I remember right they say to check them at 100k km and replace if necessary. Don't quote me on that bit.
The DIY isn't too bad. Need your usual sparkplug socket. Extension for your ratchet, it's a deep reach. You'll have to remove your throttle bodies to access the back plugs. This is a good time to clean them too, just make sure to do the idle relearn afterwards. Besides that, just some hoses in the way. I'd say difficulty is 5/10.

Can you elaborate on the idle relearn? So after I clean the throttle bodies, just start the car and let it idle until it normalizes or...?

Thanks, that's interesting. Will post a detailed summary of the DIY (in the appropriate thread) when I get around to doing it.

No, but I believe the knock sensors would detect detonation and retard timing if that occurred. I will try and gradually increase the timing to see what results I get. I will keep posted once it warms up -7° this morning.

Forgot how sad my car is once it gets to -30 outside. Hell of a noise starting up, backup cam doesn't work when it's that cold, head unit is super slow and sad. Also get lovely warning lights on the dash once it gets this cold, today was flashing SRS light, security indicator light and the intelligent key warning light. Car still drives fine and everything works with all the lights turning off after a restart once the car has warmed up.

While the difference is academic at that temperature, I assume you mean -30*C, being Canadian.

Ah yes, -22F. Car wouldn't even start with my remote starter this morning, had to go out there and push the button and then run back inside. Wasn't sure that it was going to actually fire up with how slow it cranked.

Anyone know if the center caps for G37 and Q50 are interchangeable?

The Q50 comes with center caps with a nice black logo that I think looks much sharper than the ridged, chrome look that the G37 ones have.

Got down to -28F with a windchill of -39F. Battery called it quits. Had to get a boost since my portable battery booster was also dead... Going to have to grab a new battery now.
