Sedan Chat Thread
Four houses down the street from me is a home with an elderly couple. They keep to themselves, and I rarely see them. The house and yard are barely kept up, it seems. The garage is always, always closed, and they park a beat up old Ford LTD in the driveway... pavement which itself is getting reclaimed by the lawn. Not exactly the best property in the neighborhood, in fact probably one of the worse off. But hey, everyone gets old, and home maintenance can suffer with age.
Anyway, just now I was driving home, and their garage door was open. Inside was an orange Bricklin SV1.

OMG

Nah. Although I might actually introduce myself and see what comes of that. I've lived here for 20 years, and have never even said "hello".
Here's an interesting, related story: in 1974 to 1975, when I was a little boy living in the suburbs with my parents, there was a house down the street with an unusual thing going on in the back yard. Apparently the owner pushed open the back of his garage so that the front was just an entryway into a vastly larger structure that took over his whole back yard. (Did he have zoning permissions to do that? IDK, doubtful.) It was all very stealthy. From a casual glance, it looked just like every other average house on a very average street.
Anyway, turns out he was a car nut, and very specifically, it was all about the Bricklin SV-1, which was brand new at the time. He owned quite a few of them.
Flash-forward 40 years, and I see a Bricklin on display at the Rochester Auto Show. I struck up a conversation with the owner... and we quickly discovered it was the same guy! And his love for Bricklin only grew. In fact, this is his shop, right here in Rochester NY:
Bricklin Autosport - Home
Timeless, amazing visual design, IMO. Gull-wing doors, FTW. Well, actually, FTL... because their design absolutely sucked. And the interior was so crude, it rivaled SLN's "Adobe", if you know that reference. The old AMC 360 V8 was somewhat lame, replaced in the second year with the Ford 351... although they only paired the Ford engine with an AT for some dumb reason.
IDK, the car just makes me so nostalgic. Love it, regardless of the design flaws.

Sunroof drains?
My parents bought a 12 g37x after seeing my g37S. Got the Infiniti Elite warranty because of me. Well, last week we had hella rain in Georgia. Their floors flooded in the car. Enough to cover your hands completely with water. I told my dad to have the sunroof drains cleaned at his 45k service this week. Well Infiniti called and said the drains need replacing. Over $500 and the warranty doesn't cover it. He called corporate and they've opened a case to find out what's going on and why it's not covered. Have any of you guys ran into this??
Here's another neighborhood car story. But that's it, I swear. In general, my neighborhood is simple and practical minded. There are very few interesting cars here. (Except for the barn-find Bricklin, LOL)
All year long, I've been noticing a red 2004 GTO at the end of the street, usually in the garage when the garage door is up, once in a while it would be in the driveway. I know it's a 2004, because the unique rear end and lack of hood scoops. I've always thought maybe someday when walking the dog or something, I'd get a chance to talk to the owner.
Driving by today, I spotted the car's owner out in his front yard. So I braked and asked him if that was his goat, and would he mind talking to me about it. Should have seen the smile on his face... boy was he eager to talk about his car! He practically sprinted into the house to get his keys.
It actually is a 2004, with the original LS1 Chevy V8 and a 6MT. The car has 120K miles on it, and in certain areas the mileage shows. However, there's no rust, and no winters. He has a K&N cold air intake, high flow cat and a Borla catback. The suspension is all original, so I'm guessing it's complete crap, and handing mods don't seem to be his bag, so he probably doesn't care. But man, what a sweet sound that 5.7 makes with the Borla pipes! (In actuality, he claimed it was bored out, so insofar as displacement goes... 5.7+)
So it seems there are two 53 year old kids at opposite ends of my street, each with a unique and obnoxiously loud car. Kind of funny.

A bored & tuned LS1 with full I/E mods in a very tired, high-mileage 2004 GTO... against my modified G37?

I still kind of feel like I'm on the short end of that straight line. However, if there were but one turn in that match-up, I'd slip right through on rails while he'd surely be in the ditch. The 04-06 GTO had notoriously sloppy steering, so without decent suspension mods... that's not the car to take auto-crossing.
At some point I should visit again with my car.

Three door locks are no longer functioning with the rear driver side the lone hold out.
I'm going to contact Infiniti to see if they can do something for this. What can it hurt. This is lemon level stuff when it comes to door locks failing.
The battery is fine. The locks just gave out. 65000 miles.
