I also just had a new set of tires put on my Volks. I was lucky enough to get a partial sponsorship price from Toyo, so I went with a full set of Proxes T1 Sports in 255/30ZR20 (F) and 305/25ZR20 (R). Now I just need to get them on the car this weekend.

Problem solved.

Everyone can use a good high quality dash cam to protect themselves. It is very helpful if you ever need to file a insurance claim. Take the recorded footage of the incident and send it to your insurance company.

All the evidence is on film. Even license plate numbers

I heard some companies even offer discounts if you have a dash cam installed.

Could also get some Toyo R888 Drag radials when you really want to get wild, although you'd have to run a skinny 285/35 or a steamroller 315/30.

I want to see how your going to fit 305's in the rear!? Rolling the fender or shaving down? However I do love me some T1 sports, have a set on the wife's G and LOVE them

 

I wasn't in my car, I was inside..... whoever hit me fled so I have no proof that anybody else was involved

 

Also, my body guy said that he gets more complaints about that location then any other.... I was the second car from BP he had fixed that week. The manager of BP confirmed that there is no parking lot surveillance.

Why not? A good dash cam has parking mode which continues to record footage even with the car off when it detects motion or impact to the vehicle.

When my camera detects impact or motion it records a 20 second clip. 10 seconds before the impact and 10 seconds after. That way you can see what happened in the 10 seconds that led up to the impact/motion and what happened 10 seconds after.

A dash cam definitely would have helped

Thanks guys! If I ever get the money and time to have the tranny done by Level 10, then I might consider getting a set of Drag Radials for the rear, Brad. But for now the car won't be going back to the track until the tranny's been fixed.


The rear fenders have already been widened by ~35mm (about 1-3/8") and these tires are replacing a set of 305 wide Bridgestones that have been on the car for almost a year. No rubbing at all. In fact, I have enough clearance that I'm going to add 12mm spacers to the rear when I reinstall everything. I really wanted to go to 325's, but my wheels aren't quite wide enough for that much rubber. I've talked to a few companies about wider custom barrels for my Volks, so I may try going even wider for my next set!

These are my first set of Toyo's, so I'm glad to hear you've had good luck with the T1 Sports.

 

Decided to install longer rear wheel studs while I had the tires off (so I can install 10 or 12mm spacers). Originally purchase ARP extended studs which are only supposed to be 20mm longer than stock, but they ended up being around 30mm longer than stock (not including the rounded tip on the end). Since these were too long for my needs I ended up purchasing some 45mm extended stud from Ichiba, which are actually 52mm including the knurl portion, so they ended up being about 15mm longer than the OEM rear studs. I guess I will be returning the ARP studs.


Below is a pic showing an OEM rear stud (about 37mm including the knurl), an OEM front stud (about 40mm including the knurl), and the ARP studs that are only supposed to be 20mm longer than the stock studs, but ended up being over 66mm long (not even including the rounded tip).

 

Also installed front and rear SPL sway bar end links, SPL eccentric lock-out bolts along with some DME rear arms.

 

Good luck with the SPL fronts. I have to consistently keep greasing them so my car doesn't sound like it's falling apart. The exposed helm joints cause owners to have to grease them often so they don't make noise. I reached out to SPL and they don't have a fix for this problem. I'm eventually going to go back to stock front end links.
