I've been thinking about this problem, and wonder how much effort it would be to keep a roll of frog tape in the trunk, for those days where you are forced to park the car outdoors under the beating sun. Don't even need to be precise, just rip a 12" length of tape and run it down the middle of the lens.

Granted, some people park their car in situations and climates where this is a pointless solution. But for others it might be a simple precaution.

I agree and I like you thinking. But, it's a bit of a PITA for what one pays a pro or the effort one puts into a DIY, to carry tape and stick it on if it looks like fair weather.

IDK about you, but my friends and family already think i've gone 'round the bend. If I start taping bits and pieces of my G to keep the sun off it...well....

I drove all the way to the PA meetup last year with my front bumper wrapped in green frog tape, because I didn't want to show up with all kinds of bugs smushed to my front end. It looked weird, green against white, but I didn't care.

I garage-park my car, and barely drive it anyway. Plus, I live in a climate where blistering sun is a rarity. Still... if the situation called for it, I wouldn't hesitate. After you get your headlights painted, keep a roll in your trunk, Sean. Now that you're thinking about it, you know you're going to anyway... so just stop fighting it.

Yeah, that would get you some weird looks.

Also, it would look terrible on the car... Luckily I don' t have to park outside really ever, but I'm curious what you guys come up with.

As much work as you put into the car looking good, and you're going to keep it parked with ripped off pieces of tape over the lenses? 3M has some very light tints that reject 60% of heat. Seems like an easy win.

Are you guys not sanding off the chrome and using hi-temp paint? I don't see why it bubbles if you do proper prep.

I don't think it's the paint. The actual chrome and plastic is bubbling from underneath.

This is what I'm going to end up doing I think. I know it will work but I'm just worried that it will not looked good.

Sounds like you need better friends and family... True friends and family would help you tape them
