If you have a *very* loose definition of the word "fit", then yeah. I doubt they would make a distinction between coupe and sedan mats if you could interchange them.

This thread needs more chat.

Hey Mik3G37S, are you going to try removing your grille and the plastidip on your own before the paint job? Seemed that way from the thread we somewhat whored up. I think you can do this, man.

What's going on guys? So, I just finished reading all damn 65 pages of this thread trying to pick up tidbits of info because I will be purchasing a G37 in the next 7 months. I will definitely be doing far more research on the car, but since I am here, put some time into this thread, I figured I would shoot off some general questions, some of which are opinion based, just to grasp a little more. Thanks to anyone in advance who deals with my beyond noob questions.

1. I am going to be purchasing a '11-'13 G37. Do you think the S is worth a little extra $$$ than the journey? Why?
2. What engine performance mods are a must? I am seeing HFC, CBE, intakes and tunes in this thread. What kind of power gains to the wheels are we talking about here? Cost to HP type stuff.
3. What suspension mods are a must on a journey or S.

Some info that I can provide, albeit minimal... The smog laws in CA are insane. From what I understand it's not illegal to change any of the emissions equipment AS LONG AS there is a carb number for the part. ie if you have an aftermarket intake, it needs to be stamped with the carb # and you must have the carb documentation with you at the time of testing. Now, they do the OBD-II, visual and sniffer here. The catch with the sniffer is that they put your car on rollers and test it ad idol in gear, and then take it up I think ~2500 rpm and test there, too. Don't move here unless you want pay someone $$$ to pass you with a modified car, or if you live outside of a smog zone. Than you just don't ever have to smog until you sell the car.

It's not Sport vs. Journey that's the question, it's AWD vs. RWD. Because the answer to that question drives the answer to the first.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but the G37's are a pretty expensive platform to mod for serious power

S vs non S depends on whether or not you plan on doing significant mods to the car. If you're going to swap out everything anyways, then it makes more sense to just stick with a journey and mod the crap out of it. I have an S, and I think the BBK and other bits are worth it.

There are no "must have" engine performance mods. The engine works great stock, the car works great stock. If you're looking for a drag racer, you're in the wrong place. I have serious doubts as to whether or not you'll be able to modify the catalytic converters at all, since very few performance oriented exhaust components are CARB certified. The rest of the exhaust should be no problem, personally, I like Fast Intentions. I think that if you put every single bolt on available on this car, you MIGHT be back to 325 horsepower, maybe 330 to the wheels. That would be intake, upper intake manifold, headers, test pipes, and exhaust. The $/hp ratio for this car is insane. The best thing you can do for horsepower gains is forced induction, which is a huge topic in itself.

The same thing applies to the suspension. There's nothing wrong with the suspension stock, it depends on what you're trying to get out of it. I like the stock S suspension, but I'll be tweaking it with coilovers later this year just so I can get the drop and look I want.

Welcome to the forum.

Definitely not wrong. $/hp boost is stupidly high. Back-of-the-envelope numbers probably puts mine at ~$70 for a single horsepower boost over stock.

Not following that, because I can get either in an x or not, correct? The sport pkg has some stuff I like like the bigger breaks, paddle shifters and larger rims that the journey does not come with.

*brakes

on the G37Xs, the sport package only includes the aesthetic differences, not the actual performance benefits. The S package on the G37xS doesn't include the Big Brake Kit, or the paddle shifters.

The xS does come with the paddle shifters.

The rwd comes with VLSD, sports tuned steering, sports suspension, staggered 18" wheels, BBK, paddle shifters (unless it's the 6mt), in addition to the sport appearance package (which is what the xS has) front bumper, side rocker panel, sports seats, 18" rims (non staggered).

I think that's a fair statement, Nick. You can spend lots of money on bolt-ons and a tune for a minimal, perhaps even negligible, gain. () And you can certainly improve the suspension, but it's still a relatively heavy 2+2 car.

I've always considered the G37 more of an upscale, Japanese Musclecar, if that makes any sense. Well... the RWD Sport, that is.

There were 3 Sedan models: Journey, AWD and 6MT. The Sport Package is (was) a separate option on the Journey and the AWD Sedan, whereas the Sport Package features were default in the 6MT. On the Journey and 6MT (which are both RWD cars), the Sport Package is both performance and trim. On the AWD model, the Sport Package is trim-only.

Does this help?

Flappy paddles... LOL.

2012 G37s comes with 19" staggered wheels, X has 18.

Edit: Sedans all have 18.

One would think that this being the sedan chat thread, I would have known that. One would be wrong.
