The edges are 100%. It's the very tips of the wrap-around that don't survive. Unfortunately, it's still OK enough for me to compromise.

In a perfect world, I'd rip it all off and have it professionally painted. And I probably will someday. Until then, perfection is the enemy of progress, blah blah blah.



Yeah, there are all kinds of colors. Green coilovers, red sway bars. It's like a Hot Wheel, but full-size and driven in the winter.

I drove it today actually (first time in a couple days). Even with the snows & duckfeet, it's a hell of a car. Four years into it, with four years of basic modding, and I'm still impressed with this vehicle.

Full disclosure: I didn't DIY it. It was done by a pro who guaranteed it. I know my personal limitations. That's not o job that would be healthy for me.

Why is finding a decent set of wheels such a difficult task? Having an X makes things even more complicated. I keep telling myself to wait until spring, but I can't help it.

 

Unless you've upgraded the brakes, or are planning on it someday, you don't have clearance issues with your front calipers. And since most AWD cars are square, you don't have to give consideration to being staggered. In other words, it should be easier to buy wheels for a G37x, not harder.



What's going on that's got you frustrated? No one has a gun to your head and forcing you to buy rims, so take your time and enjoy it.

 

Well I plan on upgrading the brakes either before or after my next deployment. I was referring to all the used wheels I see for sale (G37 coupe wheels to be more specific) are usually staggered and that puts me off even though people on the forums have ran those setups on AWD with no issues. I just don't want to take any risks. Plus, I'd like to have the option to have my wheels rotated.

 

Yup. I lucked out with a square set of coupe S wheels for the G. I can rotate at will.


However:

I'm on the hunt for a lightweight forged set for summer use. And I'm going to go staggered on that set. (What a shock right?)

Blnewt and the threads in the tires/wheels tech section are invaluable for choosing the right set-up so you don't freak out the AWD.

Hey it happens. For me it was just getting more experience with the G. It took me a while to come around.

I plan on having the 19"x8.5" with Conti DWS-06 245/40 square for winter. For summer: probably a 19"x9" 235/40 front and 19"x10" 275/35 set-up. But who knows, I'm still shopping. Picking out wheels is like picking out wives...

I thought the requirement for staggered on AWD was same size tires? Rolling diameter had to be within like 5% of each other.


I'd much rather search for car parts than search for a wife seeing that I am only 20 years old, lol. With the latter being the much more expensive option.

I should qualify that as I am between employment engagements...

I'm looking at used sets of the 370z sport wheels. I let a couple of sets slip by in our FS section. Being that they are forged Rays I think I can satisfy the requirements of price, weight and construction. Still early days though.

Toyed with Vossen CV2s, though they don't meet any of my requirements and are retired. 19" Vossens can be rare birds too. You lucked out with yours and they look great.

Aside from the 5 spokes I've been looking at, I do like the way the mesh works on a sedan.

I'll stop now. I'm starting to sound wishy-washy....like I said it's early days...

You are correct, but I believe it's 3%.

Anyhow, the 235/275 set is only 0.67% larger in back than the front. And the rolling diameter for the new set varies from OEM by -1.30%. So I think I'm in the money there. (Know this: I didn't figure this out on my own, Thanks Blnewt!!!).

The new line of Vossen Forged Monoblocks are only $2000... each. (LOL)

You know, for no particular reason other than design appreciation, if I were to seriously consider forged rims, I think I'd like 2 or 3-piece wheels. Seeing those little bolts all fake on a cheap wheel is maddening, but seeing those little bolts on a real component wheel is awesome. There's something almost steam-punk about multi-piece wheels. It's cool, and IDK why.

 

Awd and wheels just means more attention to tire sizes and rolling diameter. Do a lot of reading and ask some questions on here, these guys are really helpful. I personally went square just for ease of tire rotations.
