Are these panels misaligned?

Was looking at this used G37. Looks like the front bumper assembly is misaligned? What do you think?

What I notice is:
  • Hood doesn't fit flush with bumper in front center
  • Weatherstripping on both sides of hood appears to be resting funny
  • Where bumper assembly is bolted back to body, you can see old bolt positions
  • Alignment of bumper assembly to body above headlights seems off.

6 photos are here: G37 damage - Imgur

This was a lease car with more than 35K miles. CARFAX is clean, but it either means major event not recorded or this was a low threshold of damage.

Here's the two revealing images:

See how the hood is a little above the weatherstripping in center?

The bolts have been moved.

Thoughts?

Appears that something happened to the G prior to your inspection. The screws that have been moved aren't part of the bumper but a radiator lock mount. It's item 3 in this diagram

I've removed my bumper several times and had to install a new one recently and there wouldn't be a need to remove the side weatherstripping completely, just the front ends need to be pulled back to access the bolts, this may be the reason it's not sitting flat though, they may also be new seals that aren't setting flat since when they ship them they can get twisted. The hood does appear to be raised in the middle a bit, a shot directly in front would be helpful to see if it's actually rising or the seal is the culprit. Can't really see the headlight fitment that you're referring to, I went on your other photo site and couldn't really tell from the pics. If the bumper doesn't have a clear bra but is in perfect ding-free shape that could mean the bumper has been replaced, these do get dings pretty easy and in 32k miles there should be some wear.

Thanks, radiator support lock bracket. So may be more OK if that part moves around a big?

Here's a new album with more detailed photos. Overall, the bumper seemed to be in decent shape.

Whoops, forgot to insert link to the album. It has detailed photos showing the alignment between the bumper cover/front end assembly and the front fenders near the headlights.

Tracked down the original owner. He said it was wrecked and had over $15,000 of repairs through the Infiniti dealer. OK, passing on this one!

Nice investigative work, at least you had enough suspicions to be on guard

Nice job...the car does look like it has been in an accident. The panels look too new to be classified as non-accident and all the panels are definitely misaligned.

Wow, I'm impressed! But seriously, why isn't that on carfax? Isn't it illegal to not report a major accident?!?!

Not sure how the law works, but the lessee said it was fixed by an Infiniti dealer and through his major brand insurance company.

If it is fixed by an Infiniti dealer, they did a **** poor job fixing it. I would not accept it if it was repaired like that.

Wow, any more $$ damage and it would had been sold as a salvage title.

Wonder if you can report that to Carfax.

Feel bad for whoever ends up with that car.

Good eye OP.
