No, it is not your friend. It's a car. Unless you sell a car to a friend, in which case you can continue your relationship (somewhat) with the car. Otherwise, you're stalking. If you move on to a better car, then you'll quickly forget about the car you left behind.

Hey man, say/think what you want. I guess I'm more sentimental than most. What I'm talking about doing when I say "checking up" doesn't involve the new owners at all. I would just buy a Carfax report on it to see if it's still on the road, really. Check milage, service report, etc. I would just check whenever I think about it in a few years.
Not some weird thing like going to their house and breaking into their garage, or anything like that.
