Do you really think the hood liner on the G37 eliminates heat rather than traps it? If so, where does it go? IDK man, for me, that goes against conventional wisdom (said the man who is not a physicist.) In fact, I'd take it one step further and suggest the liner isn't just there to deaden noise, but exists to help the engine warm up to operating temp during cold weather.

How about that?

Either way, I'm liking it, and the hood liner has been banished to the attic.
lol agreed, the hood liner just helps deflect/absorb some of the direct heat...i never said it was there to dissipate the heat so sorry for the misunderstanding, and in a way also in a way helps absorb the engine clatter noise. Honestly either way you'll be fine man lol

Personally i think it looks better w/o the liner

Argh! My brain! You're a clever monkey, daonlyillwiz. Take a bow.

Thanks for the detailed review Rochester Definitely digging your setup, it looks REAL clean and the black powdercoating > than the blue. I like the look of the GT-Spec better than my Alutec though. Just noticed the G37S logo on the battery box cover. Nice subtle touch there.

2nd gen G sedan hoods are also aluminum. I had enough stone chips on my 07 hood to be certain. Nice shiny chips for about 3 years...and no corrosion.

Dang, we might not need paint at all if all panels were made of aluminum. I love black cars, but I don't mind to have shiny polished aluminum finish.

You're very welcome. I debadged the G37S off my trunk last month.

That's fantastic miscellaneous info. Thanks, rpm! I'll have to whip that out the next time someone (in real life) asks me details about the car.

So ... back to the subject

I didn't see this thread and posted a new one about the lack of intake sound getting into the cabin on my new 6MT. My '09 xS 7AT sounds sweet inside - a wonderful growl when you get on it, nothing when driving softly. I really miss that sound on the new car. I agree with John ... it's too quiet.

I could try his solution - but why would my two G's be that different?? Both cars have the stock intakes, exact same filters, etc. I asked the question in the other post about a sound port in the firewall because I vaguely remembered that from somewhere. Can't find any data on it. Wondering if they left if off the 6MT?

Well, I went out with the drop light and found a difference. The '09 has large Helmholtz resonators (tuned sound chamber) below both airboxes. These are connected by a plastic tube to each airbox. The tube connects to a port about 1" in diameter just in front of the filter element. They are not installed on my 6MT. The filter housings are identical, but there are plugs in the ports on the newer car.

Helmholtz resonators are generally tuned to null out intake sound, but I wonder if these were used to increase it?
