Good find. When researching intakes, I do recall reading comments about how you could remove the resonators under the air boxes, because they weren't in the mix anymore. But in my case, there was nothing to remove beyond the air boxex and the flex-tubes.

Curious, this made me go up to the attic just now to look at the OEM air boxes. You're right... there's a 1" cap directly in front of the filter elements. Also, one of the flex-tubes (only one) has an additional resonator hanging off it like a 4" tumor. I thought that was odd.

I suppose the resonators you're referring to could be there by design to increase intake noise . But if INFINITI were to do that, you think that would be for the 6MT, rather than the non-Sport. I suspect the difference is in model year, and not model. As for an explanation for the different designs, I have no idea.

 

I read a thread saying that they were there to trap small rocks and water from getting into your TBs anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

Does anyone who removed their hood liner have any update? Problems?

Now that it is hot out, I'm starting to feel the warmness in the engine bay when at a stand still for a bit.

Or would a CAI be the only real way to fight off heat soak?

Has anyone done a temp reading to the engine bay, before and after removal of the hood liner?

 

I've had mine off for a while now and have not had any issues. My temp gauge hasn't shown any indication of it being any warmer. I believe that it was Rochester that had mentioned that the 370Z doesn't even come with one, and that most likely the only reason its on the G and not the Z is for noise dampening. They both have the same engine and probably the same crappy paint, so I doubt there is any other reason for it. You should be fine.

Just for reference, here is a picture of a 370Z that shows that they don't have a hood liner.

Yeah, I didn't think there would be. If the black car can stand the Las Vegas sun all summer long, then the heat from the engine would do very little.

And besides, if there was a big enough fire to release the liner, I think I would rather it just burn to the ground, then have the chance of it being repaired. It would be a total loss.

 

The paint on the strut towers and uncovered portions under the hood seems to handle the heat just fine....

 

You guys realize that paint is baked on at the factory, right?

 

I took mine off on a whim while replacing my air filters yesterday. Even with everything totally stock and regular paper filters, I can hear a slight difference.


And yeah, there is a bunch of painted body that is inches away from the block. Not too worried about the hood that is farther from the engine than the plastic shroud.

Not sure what the is for, so I'll just take the comment at face value and say "Thanks!"

The engine bay, like the rest of the car, is always a work in progress. That gold color didn't last too long on the engine cover, and I went with a more copper/orange color. Which is still not quite right, but good enough so that I like it better.

 

Is there really any increase in the intake sound? I've been batting around this idea since the thread was originally posted. After this amount of time a problem would surely have developed from heat if there was going to be any.

 

You be the judge. Go for a drive with it on and then come home and take the hood liner off and go back out. The best part is that it's easily reversible if you want to put it back on.
