The car spent alot of time with the timing in a retarded state, effectively resulting is somewhat lower performance. Assuming the knock sensors are working properly, lower octane will not destroy the car, just make it run less than optimal by retarding the timing.

 

I ran regular 87 octane for 171796 miles in my 06 G35 6 speed sedan. Still ran like new when i traded it in last August 31st.

My current 2012 G37S has never seen a drop of premium in it 23k miles thus far.
IMHO premium is a waste of money and a huge scam

Telcoman, what is your MPG? From my understanding you take a slight performance hit not using 91-93 octane so it should all be relative I am just curious how much of a difference there is.

 

I'm curious as well. I always hear that you won't ever reach your potential MPG if you use lower than recommended octane fuel. Plus some cars will develop an engine knock over time (although supposedly it'll go away once you put the recommended fuel back in).

keep in mind rental car isn't "pre-owned" car.

Rentals are abused by company or people you never knew who take care of it, or previous owner who did any abuse to it.,

don't buy rental, just get the 2013, might be costly, but it's worthy your investment.

 

I fill up one mile from the NJ Turnpike and drive 50 miles to work

This is the highest MPG so far early one morning with the temperature at 63 degrees and 37% humidity



Over a tankful of 350 miles I average 25 MPG

you dont know the full history of the used car you are buying.

Just because a used car looks stock that doesn't meant it was stock its entire life.

Bought my 2011 G37 in Oct 2011. It was a rental with 15,700 miles and I paid 25,725 at an Manhiem auction. Only problems were a side skirt had some scrapes on one side and small scratches around the trunk area where people loaded luggage, no door dings or other scratches. The interior was in great shape and haven't had a single problem since purchase. It's always a gamble when purchasing a used vehicle much less a rental. With the money I saved I was able to start modding and couldn't be happier with my decision.
