Rattle From Under The Car?

So about 3 days ago I noticed a rattle coming from under the car. It only occurs when I go over small bumps, basically when the car vibrates. Sounds like something is loose. Any ideas of what it can be? I did some research here and people say it's the heatshield.

That's a common complaint, especially at cold start ups.

The thing is it happens when I go over bumps, so its not like an engine rattle but more like something is and vibrating metal against metal.

Look at your sway bar end links. I had a strange rattle noise when I would drive on choppy roads, bumps, etc. I suspected it had to do with my suspension. Brought it to the dealership and diagnosed that it was my sway bar endlink.

Hope that helps.

It seems like thats exactly what's happening, thanks! But one questions, do dealers care if your car is modded or not? I have exhaust and HFC on.

I don't think so , but if your G is still under warranty bring it in to your Infiniti dealership

They'd have to prove that your mods was the cause of problem. I've taken my car in for stuff and it has all been covered under warranty.

Most likley a brake backing plate/splash shield... Jack the car up and hit each tire on the inside with a rubber mallet to isolate the noise.

I've had this before and it's back again. Unless I'm bringing in my car for service I've learn to ignore it. To be honest last 2 x I went in for service i forgot to mention it.

If that brake dust plate is what you're talking about, then you're right. Going to take off the wheel tomorrow and see what its banging against and probably just bend it away.

Nice, glad your mystery is solved, nothing more annoying than a noise or rattle that you can't ID.
