Paddle shifters - Do you really use it?
I'm hesitant between purchasing a 2010 G37x or a 2009 G37xS. For me the real plus with S are the paddle shifters. I drove only manual cars for the last 20 years.
During the test drive I enjoyed using the paddle shifters. But I'm concerned that once the honey moon new car/new gadget is over I'll stop using them, so the extra money spent is wasted.
What do you think?

I've only had mine for 3 weeks and have yet to use the paddle shifters. Yet I really wanted the Sport model b/c of the added features of the S package.
You're also debating the '09 and the '10 model differences. Personally, I actually prefer the simpler front end of the '09s. I would like the '10 navigation package since it include XM weather and slightly different graphics and coloring.
Are the colors the same? A preference at all on that? I will say that Sport models are hard to find. For example my Infiniti dealer had approximately 8 preowned G37 models but only one of them was the Sport model. Thankfully I really liked it and grabbed it.
Good luck with your choice!

Well you get those nice sport seats. So that's something right there.

My wife’s IS250 has paddle shifters and, frankly, we never use them. It’s just not the same satisfaction one gets shifting gears while flipping a clutch in a MT car. Yes, I use my DS mode from time to time, but I don’t see where paddle shifters would do anything more. And I like putting my right hand on the center gear shift lever, like the old days.

I've used mine from time to time but only when I'm on some back roads (in DS) or when I'm over taking someone on the high way and I need the down shift imminently (I won't even put it in DS) because with the 7at it'll take a few seconds to hunt for the right gear.

Never use them. Even if I want to shift myself, using the stick is easier. This is the third car I have driven with them and the third time I don't use them.
And as the other poster said, its better to just let the computer do it in DS...even though its not the best algorithm, at least it shifts fast.

I use the paddles everyday, just not as much as in the first month. The shifts are delayed and jerky making my opt for auto DS 100% of the time. But whenever I don't have to come to a complete stop, I use the paddles so that I can keep the car in one gear as I go through turns. That's just a habit I formed driving manuals my whole life, and taking turns VERY fast.

They come very handy on the track and canyons. If only they were more responsive.

They are very handy on the b-roads. I use them everyday!!! It's not that the paddles are slow to respond, it's the tranny. Infiniti needs to ditch the torque converter and use a dual clutch set-up. I mean come on - you hit the paddle, the gear indicator number on the dash changes, and then.......wait for it....gear change! The paddles do add some excitement to the otherwise boring auto trans though. Changing via the gear shift lever is another option, but Infiniti has the '+ / -' backwards. When you pull the gear shift lever backwards, it should be for upshift, and when you push it forward, it should be for downshift.
