I chatted with a infiniti rep. The current G37s is around 3700 and the Q50s is around 3850...But he did mention that the base Q is lighter than the base G though...

this is no longer a bargain car, this is meant to be a true competitor, if you want bargain, then the ILX is meant for you

This. No 6MT = Not for me. But, maybe I am not in their new target demographic.

my car will do just fine for now but I know what you mean, have to "pay to play" so to speak and the Q50 seems to be quite the vehicle...I'll admire from the sidelines (but continue to enjoy my 3rd pedal )

hahah I am there with you, as much as I love the new car (see my review in this section as I got to drive it) the lack of a 6mt will take me out of it until they add it back in. But the quality and tech is worth the money

He must have been talking about the Hybrid. The Hybrid AWD curb weight is listed @ 3849 lbs on infinitiusa.com. Overall the chassis is slightly lighter and it shows in the RWD and AWD listed curb weights.

EDIT: Scratch that. I'm wrong. The Sport AWD is 3849 lbs. Mind made a leap looking at the charts. But overall it still stands that the chassis is lighter.

^ this is getting really old. Infiniti debuted the grille first. Even still, I don't see Lexus in the front. And until the spindle grill, WTH did a Lexus look like anyway? There was never distinct Lexus look.

by ~ 30-40lbs? That is almost the same as taking the spare tire out of my G. They should have at least dropped close to 100lbs and give the vq a bit more low end grunt in order to run with the new 335i. That thing is running 4.6-4.8 in 60 runs..

A Camry!

Those seeking the MT option may have to seek elsewhere if the new demographic is what it appears to be - higher end/more luxury. The Q looks to be a great car from what little we've seen so far, but it might not be the car for many of us depending on the price point and options list. I understand wanting to to be a "true" competitor, but be careful what you wish for. Part of the appeal of Infinity in general has been "value" when compared to the establishment. As mentioned earlier, the Q50 AWD Sport is spot on the price of an S4 Prestige. That badge, and the associated pedigree, means a LOT to buyers in this price range.

Regardless, choice is good, and with 4 kids getting larger everyday and all their associated stuff, it my be irrelevant for me moving forward. I've actually started looking at crew cab trucks Now THAT is scary....

this vehicle is definitely better than the m, more luxurious, almost as spacious, faster and better mpg. It will interesting to see what happens with the M now that the Q is up in the same price range area

You should know by know that reps/sales weasels/etc., are absolutely worthless when it comes to tech.

There are more models for the Q50:

Q50: 3574
Q50 Premium: 3611
Q50 Sport: 3675
Q50 AWD: 3748
Q50 AWD Premium: 3787
Q50 AWD Sport: 3849

G37 Journey: 3628
G37x AWD: 3822
G37 6MT Sport: 3709

IMO the best comparison is:

Q50 Premium: 3611
G37 Journey: 3628

Q50 AWD Premium: 3787
G37x AWD: 3822

So, the Q50 is a bit inherently lighter.

In the mag comparisons of the 6MT models , and even then the G37 will generally catch the 335i by 125 mph or so. Base Journey 7AT vs. a 335i IMO is a tossup.

IMO the gearing of the G is off. The key to more accel is getting power down better; there's already quite a bit of it.

7AT: 3rd is a bit too long and 4th is way too long. Shorten 5th and 6th a bit.

6MT: too long all around. Each gear should be shorter by 10-15%. That will go a fai

by 125mph it is really irrelevant to many people who don't track the car.

the G37 gearing is aiming toward fuel economy. by shorten it you are looking to take 10-15% hit on MPG. and that will hit the sales numbers quite a bit.
