Selling cars>beating the 335i by a car length.

I love when people act like they know how the automotive market works...

I'm getting rid of my G in about a month when my new truck comes in. Sadly, I just can't stand the crap 7AT programming anymore, and plan on purchasing another car towards the end of the year, daily driving a 21 foot diesel beast until then. I have looked at every possible car I can think of from the Subaru BRZ (slow like molassas) to an AMG Mercedes. German cars **** me off. They just seem so bland and boring inside. Lexus is getting rid of the IS-F, their automatics don't have a true "manual" mode, and the Cadillac CTS-V sucks due to the crap electronics inside.

After looking at numerous cars, I keep coming back to the Q50 as a viable option. Maybe they've learned a thing or two about how to program a transmission, and maybe the hybrid won't have the same issues. I just want something with a <6 second 0-60 that has either a manual or an automatic with a full manual mode, isn't made by Germans, isn't FWD, and has 4 seats so I can fit my daughter in the back on the way to work. I also need some of those creature comforts like nav, pushbutton start, heated seats, etc. It also needs to reach a monthly payment of <$700, whether lease or purchase. The Q50 meets every bit of that criteria and more. The only things I really dislike about the Q50 are the 7AT, and the damn wood trim inside with upper level packages. If I didn't need a back seat, I'd totally buy a 370Z. I also don't want an American muscle car... Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, etc.

The only other thing that worries me about the Q50 is the drive by wire steering. If the option is added to the car, I just want the ability to turn that crap off if it doesn't give good feedback. For the highway road trips, I bet it's great.

@bitNine The 7 at definately feels different and I would put it on par with the dual clutch in the audi for smoothness. You can also do full manual mode, it is sub 5 seconds, isnt fwd. The wood in this is much better than previous generations and the steer by wire is actually quite good, very responsive, good weight to it. I would take a look at it when you can.

Any idea if the hardware was physically changed or was it just a s/w change?

If just s/w, I wonder if could be "backed down" to the older years.

You mean leases, not sales.

Otherwise, yes, you're right. BMW has cornered the smug market.

In fairness to Lexus, the ugly face making the internet rounds is their Sport model. Here's a picture...

Irrelevant. I wish I was as brilliant as BMW.
